Thoughts on TC Electronics.

Just trying to provide some helpful information and not commenting on how TC advertise their specs.
Sounbwoy asked if it takes a 2 ohm load which it doesn't but clearly the minimum is lower than 4 unless TC is rating it's cabs 8ohm when they are really 12 Ohm which seems unlikely...

Now that you mention it, there was a thread about exactly that last year sometime. The upshot of the electrionics gurus here was that the speakers should be rated in the area of 13 - 18 ohms.

I had an RH750. I don't really care about the 236 watt business - that amp was plenty loud - it sounded like 750 watts to me. It has a nice feature set, but it's a little cumbersome with changing EQ centers on the semi-parametric EQ. I liked having three presets. It's a very sturdy build ... EXCEPT ... for the knobs. I replaced them twice and had a fourth set on standby. I've heard that they have remedied that situation. Overall, an excellent-sounding amp if you have some time to futz with the EQ - it isn't one of those amps that sounds good to my ear when set "flat." Why did I sell it? I got tired of replacing the knobs. I sent the spares along with it to the buyer.

Last page, page 7, last grid. Look in the min load column.

The cabs are all 8 ohm. . . please don't think they are anything else. What ever the labels say, the cabs are 8 ohm.

Whatever the labels on the amps say, of the amps in the list, one is 2 ohm, the other 3 are 2.67 ohms. That's how they run 3 cabs. That is the only way they can run 3 cabs.

Sadly TC have left the erroneous labelling on their equipment. IMO they are getting some very poor marketing advice.

Thanks Waltsdog and sissy kathy...old age is a b...... I guess. Crazy why theyy wouldn't put that in the manuals..oh well. I've always wanted a TC Electronic head, but if I have to run both my cabs (4ohms each) that would not make the grade. I'll stick with my EA Micro.
Read the @chris_b post above (#48), you're apparently getting bad info from me. His information, from TC Electronics, says the BH 1500 is a 2 ohm minimum, and the RH450, RH750, and Blacksmith are each 2.66 ohm minimum. I trust that info more than a vaguely remembered thread from a year ago that may not have been correct to begin with.

When i ordered mine, it came with 4 of the knobs broken. Ridiculous. I contacted them, and they have upgraded them and sent them for free. The new ones are very solid and won't break. Much better design

I discovered that effects knobs for pedals and such will fit my rumble amp. maybe you could get some of them if you're dissatisfied with yours.

Dang. sucks I'm hearing all this. I'm new to all this and I'm coming from the electric guitar world, so the only TC electronic products i'm familiar with are their pedals, which are excellent. Full of value. Aw well. Can't have it all. I think i'll stick to Markbass

Very fond of their pedals, particularly the mini series - the Polytune 2 mini is utterly fantastic in use, and built as solid as any Boss pedal (doesn't support poly tuning for bass though, not that that's a concern for me, it's accurate and built to last).

As for the amps, I was very tempted by the BH550. I'm not interested in the complaints about the power ratings - it's loud enough or not, and it sounds good or not. The tone print function, especially on the 550 and the 800 heads which have 2 directly available (as opposed to one active and one hidden on the 250) is very cool, and potentially saves a fortune on effects pedals that get used on one song that you only play once.

What put me off though was lots of stories about the knobs being cheap and breaking - they may have remedied this, but it leaves me wondering where else they cut corners to release what are quite cheap amps.

Maybe one day I'll try one, but right now as a new sufferer of Bass GAS I will give them a miss and spend the money on some more of their pedals instead.

I Have a BN500 that i love, the tube tone is really great. Musicians friend used to have that amp on as a SDOTD often well worth picking up.
I have three of the full sized pedals. A delay, Chorus and Flanger, all great and fun pedals. If i had the chance to choose whether i bought any of them over again knowing what i know now, Id buy every one again
I'm not sure what will happen to TC under the new ownership but im going to keep hoping the do right by it

Hi.

This is my first post here, so hello all.
What made me post this was this doubt I have about TC:s future. Recently started to play bass again after over 15 year break and I´ve found that there´s been some changes in bass gear since I last time was looking around. First I bought EBS Reidmar+ EBS 311 proline cab. Then I wanted something to train with at home and bought used BH250 which sounded so good to me that I thought I´d replace Reidmar with Rh450 or BH500, even though I had to send BH250 for service. (It had faulty power supply)
I´d love to have 3 presets for different sounds and that built in tuner is a nice feature too. And of course pricing suits my wallet...
Now I´m getting second thoughts about buying TC products. What will happen to quality, customer/product support, brand itself???
Maybe I´m thinking whole thing too much instead of playing, but on the other hand I don´t want to waste my hard earned money for something that does not hold it´s value.

Any thoughts about brands future? Will TC become another Behringer cheapo or just keep getting bigger and better?

Well first off welcome to TB.

We (TB collectively) aren't even sure that TC has been bought; if they have been, and the quality goes down, then those currently on the market will only get more sought after. I wouldn't worry about future value, unless you tend to go through gear like water through a strainer.
