Double Bass Throw out all your rosin but this brand

Jason Heath did a good review of it on YouTube and he does give good recommendations

I just caught the Jason Heath review, and it's well worth watching for anyone that's interested (definitely listen through good headphones). Depending on what I'm playing, I've been into using a swipe or two of Bernadel cello rosin after rosining up with Wiedoeft, so if I were to order Leatherwood I may go with 50 and 30 (unless I want to wait two months to get it, in which case I'd probably order 30 and 45 from the Leatherwood shop itself). Just a heads up, Shar has Leatherwood for $62 for the two, and it's actually $57 from the Leatherwood shop itself (that's accounting for the AUD to USD exchange). Seems like a lot, but it's about $5 more per cake than it'd be for two cakes of Oak.

How d'you think they compare with the Oak line? I read these 4 points and would say the same about Oak. Well, the packaging isn't great but is better than Pop's.

Wiedoft is more aggressive than Oak Soft, but Oak Soft sounds better (to me). I'd say leatherwood sounds a bit better than Oak and doesn't dry out as fast. I found that Oak didn't last that long - cakes went "off" rather quickly and were a bit too hard for my climate in the winter

Thanks! I hear ya, man. My Oak cakes go stale quicker than I'd prefer for what I pay. Sometimes I melt them down and cut them with a bit of Pop's to bring them back. But that's totally a hassle for the cost. lol

You don't need anything fancy to keep your rosin happy. This cake of Oak has been going for better than two years. A small food container, a piece of a silicone ice cube tray from the 99¢ Store and an 8gm / 72% Boveda pouch (which, dark secret revealed, can be recharged) does the trick.

A couple of times when I forgot to check the pouch for freshness (it crystalizes after several months) a little piece of cloth soaked in alcohol closed up into the container for 20 or 30 minutes (remove the Boveda first) brought the rosin right back. Not too long though or you'll have rosin soup.

After checking out the first version of the leatherwood some time ago I was really disappointed about the "glassy and slippery" structure of these rosins.... but I gave them a second try after hearing they had fixed the recipes... and voila... they work really great for me and became very fast my favorite rosins too :)
beside of this... I use a small food container too and it works really well...even without any pouch ;)

Jason Heath also commented on that. I never tried the previous recipe but it seems that the original batch had that issue.
