Thunderbird Club Pt 5

Question for you experienced Gibson thunderbirders . What strings do like best on your bird ? I'm a big fan of Daddrio pro steels on my spectors, but Just don't know if those bright strings would be a good fit. Considering on using this bass live this weekend and I got to put fresh strings on it and since I'm a noob with this new bird I need some good advice . Thanks in advance.

I have been using DR Sunbeams (nickle) on my Gibson Thunderbird IV. I'm pretty pleased with them.

Anyone here put strap locks on their T-Bird? Because of the strap pin on the neck heel, I would want a low a profile as possible. I find the Dunlops on my Carvin great, but they sit pretty high off the body. The Dunlop flush mount ones look really nice, but I wasn't sure if it would be a sacrilege to install those.

TB1958 will like this. I'm playing Saturday night for the reunion of an 80's tribute band (Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, etc) at a show the local classic rock station is putting on. This will be the first time the Lull T4 gets its "rocks" on (or off). it should look the part with the wig and outfit!!

I have a Dunlop Strap lock on the bottom and I use a Dunlop Lok Strap disk ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) on the heel button. Works nice and is more flush to the body.

I really don't think you missed anything to special there, Standard bolt neck Epi's are pretty common.

I know this has been debate a million and one times on here im sure. But I'm lazy and don't want to look for it, I'm considering a hipshot supertone bridge for my gibby tbird I just got . One reason is I'm noticing that my hand placement while picking is rubbing on the original and causing me inconsistencies on my playing and the hipshot looks smoother and would help considerable also does it really help the tone like they say ?

It made a nice difference on my NR. It tightened up the tone and punch and the bass definitely resonates more. And the Supertone has individual string height adjustment so I was able to get the action much lower without fret buzz than I could with the three point. But the NR is flat. I think the widest edges of the bridge will ever so slightly overhang the raised center portion on a Reverse. Just a little.

The Supertone does slightly overhang the raised section of the TBird, but it's really not much at all. I like the feel of it if I rest my hand on it to pick close to the bridge. Not the prettiest bridge but I haven't regretted installing it for a second. Can't tell how much it has changed sustain, but I like the adjustability of it and the ability to get very low action.

Does anybody know if there's any notable difference between the necks on a standard 4-year old Korean-built Epiphone Thunderbird, and a 14 month old Chinese-built Thunderbird?

Also are there any differences in other regards between the two?

My reason for asking is, there are two for sale in my local classifieds, which I'm considering checking out.

I have three gibbys, 76,77,07, an 80 greco, a korean epi, and two chinese epi's. The epi's and greco have wider necks at the nut than the Gibsons. The epi was $400 when I got it new about ten years ago.

For fit and finish::::
Best first:
1)Korean Epi>Absolutely beautiful, nice wood grain.
2)Japanese Greco
3,4)Kalamazoo Gibbys 76,77
5)Nashville Gibby '07- angled back cover screws, really?
6,7)Chinese Epi's-just plain poor fit, finish flaws, etc but fun to mess with..

The Korean epi, deserved some better pick-ups so I threw a pair of SD basslines. The stock pickups did lack some clarity and got lost in the mix sometimes.
