Since Thunderbuckers are self shielding, is there any reason to shield my bass before installing the new pickups, pots etc?

If the control cavity is shielded you're good to go. IMO even if it isn't there's very little chance of extraneous noise. In any case the pickup routes don't need to be shielded.

1) What size peg hole and/or Hipshot # tuner would I use on a T-Bird Classic Pro-IV?



2 What options has anyone found on a gig bag that would fit a T-Bird Classic Pro-IV? I've found the Reunion Blues gig bags to be short, and I am a fan of gig bags (small car).

The original tuners are not too bad - mine stays in tune pretty much from rehearsal to rehearsal, only needing occasional minor adjustments...

The gigbag's been up for discussion several times lately - my vote goes for the Ritter Thunderbird gig bag, which has a perfect fit and acceptable padding IMHO...

I use aluminum foil tape. Probably costs the same as copper foil for one bass but it's enough to do at least 50 control cavities. Don't forget the cover.

You're right - the tuners seem fine...at least for now. I did order a Ritter RCG 700-9 TBB from across the pond (didn't find one anywhere on this side). The bag looks OK, and wasn't too expensive. As I'll probably add a vintage burst Epi T-Bird Classic Pro IV down the road - having both cases should cover my needs. Thanks for the tips, hillerup!

Warwick does a gig bag for t-birds and it,s a good piece of kit.
Anybody replaced the pre amp in a pro 1V and what were they,easy to fit etc.
The pro,s are good basses both of them

Yeah, but we don't seem to get the Thunderbird bag here in the US.

The hipshot d-tuner is a gb7 which is a gotoh replacement,should be able to work out the normal tuners.

I put a GB7 on my Classic, and its a TIGHT fit getting the ferrule through the head stock. I had to work at it a good bit with some gentle taps from a rubber mallet. The upside is I KNOW it won't come loose

Is more chrome hardware far behind?

I was showing off my bird to a buddy today and noticed the wood seemed to be splitting a little. Is this common for tbirds?and if so, what do I need to do to prevent this from happening further?

Ha, probably not far at all. Kinda looks wrong without the chrome now. I sent a question to Hipshot asking what the model # is for the tuners. Haven't heard back yet. Anyone know which ones they are?

That is a really weird place for a crack. Goes opposite to the grain of the wood. Not sure is there is a good fix for that.
