Question:
In regards to the strap question, earlier...I find the MONO straps to be the bee's knees! They breath, hold instruments in place on your shoulders while being very comfortable, yet aren't too thin or too wide. A killer strap - but not cheap. Worth every penny on everything IMO & IME.

Agreed. I use a MONO Doolittle on mine and it's great. Great company, too. Products are all vegan, if that matters to you. The rubber ends on this strap are fantastic; way nicer than any leather I've seen.

Oddly enough, I happen to have a set of these somewhere (Gold/amber top hat style)... I'll see if I can dig them up and I'll try them on my T-bird.

It doesn't look like there is an actual crack or separation in the photo (that's not saying it isn't there). As previously mentioned, the V shape is the glue joint for the wings and the center section. There does appear to be a short line running off of the point of the V, but that would be very odd (again, not that it couldn't happen).

Not that it has anything to do with this subject; the v shape of the wing is cut when it is machined, but it is fit to the center section by hand (in the neck fitting department) on a wide belt sander. They sand the top and bottom faces of the wing until it fits properly into the center section. There is a lot of craftsmanship that goes into it. They get a lot of practice; each neck fitter has a daily quota, though the ratio of thunderbirds/firebirds to set neck instrumets is fairly low.

The Vee shape also gives you more glueing surface and is a much stronger joint than a conventional butt joint.






Re the controls, I'm all over the place depending on the song, sometimes it's all dimed, sometimes I'll back off one or the other pickup i.e. when playing Duran Duran I dial the neck pup back and get a thinner more nasal tone which seems to work for that song.

MAN I'm glad I didn't sell this:

I've had it a while but never really used it more than just a backup...I've actually had this bass on stage and still tuned my Studio IV down! Now that I've spent some quality time with the B I can't imagine playing open E anywhere but on the 5th fret!

By the end of this month, MONO's Vertigo might be enlarged to fit longer basses such as the Thunderbird. That would be the ultimate I think.

That would be nice, I'm currently designing a hardshell for my thunderbird, A friend of mine will do the woodworks (or so he said). I'll keep you posted guys.

I can actually fit my 'bird in my older Mono M80-D bag. Its slightly worn from two years of use. Perfect for gigs when I need a 4- and a 5- string.

Still doesn't fit in my new M80-D ... yet.

I was able to MAKE it fit into an M80, but it was tight enough that it scared me and would also have been too difficult to get back in when in a rush after a gig or when having to run out of a rehearsal space.

Fresh out of the box - Epi Limited Edition Custom Shop in TV Silver:

I was kinda sceptic about the TV Silver finish, and wasn't really planning on buying this - But after seeing jdb72's pictures on page 26 and some other real life pictures of it, it kinda grew on me...

These seem to be nearly sold out pretty much everywhere, but I managed to find an online shop that still have some in stock - and they are even blowing them away cheaper than the regular ones in vintage sunburst - So I couldn't resist adding one to the collection.

I'm really impressed by it so far: the finish is SO much nicer IRL (photo doesn't really do it justice), and it really does look stunning with all the chrome - I really can't find any flaws on it, it only needs a little adjustment of the truss rod, lowering of the strings and some intonation adjustment - the usual stuff...

Also the neck is really thin compared to the regular bolt-on ones - pretty close to the Classic Pro-IV with a nut width of 1.50".

Your comments about the neck are interesting, I wonder if Epi has changged the spec on it. I found that I just didn't get along with the neck on first one I bought - I guess, at least 10-12 years ago. I bought the second with the intent of making my silly Fenderbird out it and never bothered to play it before tearing it apart.............
