From the "Well, Knock Me Out!" department:

I haven't played a Gibson (let alone a T-Bird) in 20 years. I've always liked the sound of several models...just happy with my Fenders and other builds. I missed the better recent sales on Gibson basses, so I went ahead and ordered an Epiphone in white. Glad I did. I just received it an hour ago, and I haven't had time (or will I today or tomorrow) to compare it to a couple other basses I own...but the initial take is very positive. It fits in my hand well, and is balanced enough for my tastes. A couple of things (side neck markers, controls, end pins, tuners, and maybe the bridge) will need to be dealt with, but for the price - VERY good move!

BTW: I'd read a Reunion Blues gig bag would work for a T-Bird. Not so, not unless one wishes to wear the finish off the headstock and/or rear top wing. Something else for me to check into.

First impression is great bang for the buck. Second impression may be great bang for twice the price. Time will tell...but for now I feel I made a major score :smug:

The Epi Classic Pro-IV is an amazing bass, and a fantastic bargain at the price - you can get 3 of those for the price of a Gibby, and there's hardly any difference between the two of them... :)

Now, if only Epihone would make them available in more colors... ;)

Yes Please!

Crossing my fingers for some news at NAMM.

Congratulations,

Those basses are one of the best buys out there right now. I've taken the liberty of adding you to our club - Welcome and enjoy!
You may find it becomes the only bass you want to play :bassist:

You're very gracious, TBird1958, but I thought I'd wait and ask for #444. You see I have this thing for certain numbers, and 4's & 8's are on that list. Anal, I know. 'Sides that (and like you suggested) - I'm thinking of getting one in in the brown burst PLUS perhaps any other colors that come down the pike. I believe with a few mods T-Birds could become an obsession...like I need another :help: I'm truly surprised how well it fits my hands, even though I'm a finger player, and don't have large hands. Whodda thunk after all this time ;) Sweetwater is going to love me!

Merry Christmas #444 :)

I have have small hands too, the neck of a Thunderbird is like no other bass. Much as I love the look, a big reason I play them is the neck.
The Epiphone "Classic" is truly "everyman's Thunderbird" with all the right features, playability and price - :hyper:

So would using toothpicks survive multiple inserts, as in doing adjustments a couple of times a year at least? I would love to put the metal inserts for the screws like the bridge holes seem to have, but I guess that's expensive.

Thanks.

Well, one could use round/barrel toothpicks and super-glue them in tight, trimming off the top flush. Then you carefully drill new holes a bit smaller than the screws. done.

FYI - the brass inserts are not that expensive and are easy to install.

Welcome to the club I think your gonna love the T-Bird I really like my white one it seems to play better than my other 3 T-Birds for some reason mybe it's the setup or maybe it's just the way the painted neck is I'm not sure. I'm actually looking for a 2nd white one to use to play all the time and maybe make a couple mods to. I have several other colors of T-Birds I'd like to get but in do time. I'm not sure on soft cases or gig bags which all will work. I'm sure theres a list some where on here I personally like the HSC's for them I need to get a couple more of the cases as I'm kinda anal and like a bag or case for each Bass or guitar I own but you kinda start running outta room when you start collecting HSC for each Bass. I'd like to get a couple non reverse T-Bird in the future also but not sure as I'm running outta room to hang everything on the walls. I ordered 15 more long hangers to make another section but may have to resort to building something out in the shop if I run outta space in the house.
