 cool (Grover?) wavy tuners on the black one

Aye, they would be good if there was enough space between them so they didn't bump into each other! :hmm:

Apparently they were changed by an over-zealous roadie immediately prior to a gig and never got sorted out. Not a huge problem, just requires a bit of to-and-fro with the D and G strings to get it right.

This is the only pic I have of it with the original owner, Mr Floyd London of Glasgow band "The Almighty", for whom the bass was built ... supporting Alice Cooper in Manchester ...

I've managed to get a deal on a Thunderbird for £100, but I don't know what model of TBird it is. I don't really know anything about it at all but I do know it's in decent condition. I should be getting it on Thursday, and I can't wait. I've been kind of wanting to try a TBird recently since they're a common rock bass. I think the sound might well suit my needs so I can't wait to try it in a band setting. Once I have it I'll check the serial number and see what info comes up on it.

Pictures are always welcomed, the club wants you, and we may be able to help identify it.

Well..... sort of. I found a chrome bridge at a local luthier's shop. He didn't have the saddles and screws. Also, only
two of the studs. I added the parts from the stock bridge. Looks OK..... I guess.:hmm:

Actually it's looking pretty good! Chrome parts just give that bass a classic look that black just can't match - nice!

First, a huge thank you to Steve at the Thunderbucker Ranch for the TB66s and all the hardware he built for me. He couldn't have been more patient and great to work with as I was obsessively taking measurements over and over to be sure we had it right for the 2014 model.

Basically, for awhile I've been wanting to buy a newer Thunderbird to supplement my '79, but never got around to it. The cherry color on the 'anniverary' model tipped the scale so I picked one up. Honestly, one of the best reissues I have played as far as general finish and wood, but I had to give it a damn thorough set up first.

Since Gibson refuses to make a proper Historic/'63-'65 Reissue/Custom Shop Thunderbird - I gave it a go to see if could make a nice tribute. It turned out pretty well, sounds fantastic with the Thunderbuckers (and a proper tone cap). Also switched the bridge out to a chrome one, tuners to Hipshot clovers and carved out some mahogany blocks to fill the pickup cavities to accomodate the shallower TB's. Too bad I can't enlarge the headstock... :smug:

There's a shipping service in California that might be cheaper. I don't remember it's name. If you PM 'Aussie Mark' he can tell you, he uses them a lot to ship to basses to Australia.

My experience with shipping FROM Argentina is that it was very expensive and took a long time.

Ha - that's funny! I didn't notice the spacing problem. Awesome pic - R&R! :bassist:

The 2013 new one is in Sunburst also the ebony one...

it worst the Ebony fretboard ???

The 2003 is in worse shape but costs as much as a new one? Seems like it's over priced unless it's mint condition, at least in my opinion. I have a 2013 gold Bird and it sounds very similar to my 2001 Bird. I would be tempted to buy the new one if all things (including price) are equal.
