I have one of these Hipshot bridges on my T-bird and SG Basses. I feel they hold intonation better I really didn't notice the sustain difference. Good Luck and Welcome!

I've been thinking about putting one of these on my thunderbird. My only concern is that it might make an indent in the lacquer. Any way of preventing that from happening and not damaging the finish?

Unfortunately no :( it would've been cool. But i'm really going with what he tells me his bird looked like and had. When he first got it, it was red with a bunch of stickers on it. And being a hanoi rocks fan, he had it repainted all white, including the headstock to match. And he acquired the bass with a creme ebo style pickup. He said it wasn't the best sounding compared to the gibson blackbird he had much much later on. Anyways, i plan on replicating it, with a few mods. Such as a chrome flushmount tube jack output just like the new gibsons and possibly hipshot clover tuners. also chrome. Everything in chrome and i'll probably go with thunderbucker max pickups.

A closer match to a 77-79 bridge pickup is a ThunderBucker 63 neck. Steve can do a custom wind to get even closer.

I had them installed by a tech and I asked that he felt comfortable that it wouldn't have a negative impact on finish I think hipshot had to state that because it may have happened in limited occasions. I have also heard of people over tightening the bridges to body and pulling out the anchors. You can always call hipshot the have great customer service.

It is possible. But according to my dad, as said in my previous post, it wasn't the best sounding bass. But he did love it more than the strat he traded it for. He kept the strat for a week then traded it back for his bird. It was with one of his friends. But i'm pretty content with my thunderbird for now, but building my own to my dad's gibson 70's specs would be awesome.

Hey Dan, I had a Hipshot Supertone on my Jack Casady and it never marred the finish. It did improve sustain on that bass, but on a neck through, I doubt it would improve sustain to any noticeable degree (neck throughs already have excellent sustain by virtue of their design).

My main reason for wanting one is the adjustability. I hate the the point bridges and setting them up. Such a pain.

As hard as it seemed, i got it to near perfect action. It's not as low as i'd want it to be but if i put it anylow, i'd have fret buzz and more than i'd like out of it. It's playable, i just need new strings for my t-bird. So for now, i haven't messed around with the adjustment of the 3 point. but i like it better over the hipshot, that thing looks way too massive.

ey! thanks for your reply, but the same old story, here that bridge is almost impossible to be reached and also if I can do it, the price will be almost the same that I paid for the entire bass...

so, what is the "specs" that you think that a bridge has to match for the bass? my idea is to ride off with the 3 point model.

Looks wise, it's really personal taste. But playability wise, you gotta make sure that you can adjust it to get nice action and play. And by ride off with teh 3 point, you mean get rid of it?

I'm going to sell my MIM fender for an Epiphone Thunderbird Classic IV Pro. I know it has Gibson USA pups and a through neck design, but my question is: how reliable is it? I've had a few basses fall apart on me, so I want to make sure it'll last a while If I take care of it.

for my point of view, just test it, there is no other way to know if that bass is for you.

I have one and I love it, it is a question of if you are happy or not with the model and the sound.

my two cents :D
