A bit darker and snappier than a standard 'Bird, less sustain - which for many players is a more (and I hesitate here! ) "Fenderesque" tonal response. Less money because the construction is much simplified, basically a slab body and a neck glued to it - much easier and less time/labor consuming than the traditional 9ply mahogany/walnut center block with added wings on the standard 'Bird.

^ That's a lovely Ray. I suggest it may be an idea to play a few 'Birds before you go through with this. We love them, but they are very different to a lot of other bases. The size of the bass in particular takes some getting used to, as well as the often maligned 'neck dive'. Just saying......

I cannot find an american bird to play.
Unless I drive 3 hours to NYC and even then who knows if a store will have one kicking around down there?
So the only way I can try one out is to buy to trade for one.
And then it is what it is.
I am a REALLY visual person...so liking the way something looks is a BIG part of my getting to like it.

I always liked the look and the tone I have heard out of Tbirds....
I know it will be a good deal different than any of the basses I own or have owned...
But I think it will find a home in my stable...and I think I will end up liking them.
It is not like it is my only bass...so even if it only does one thing ( as many people have suggested) that's perfectly cool by me
Neck dive is no biggie to me, I have not played in a band in years...(so most of the time when playing I am parked on my butt.) lol
my business will not allow me the time to get in one.
I always am crazy busy and travel a good amount. Cannot commit to a band.

I've never seen any published info on this, not sure it'd really matter anyway, no two of my 'Birds are identical so they vary a bit in set up. A 3 point wants you to loosen the string tension and turn the mounting posts equally a little at a time.
Here are some end shots, the white one is an '89, the purple and green are '76s and last an '09 Nikki Sixx Mk.II, which while higher still has nice, low action.

I have a 2011 TBird IV on hold as we speak at an online store.
I have someone buying my Ray. And onto Tbird-dom I go!
It is the 2011 IV in the Cherry Finish.
I think it might be a Limited edition ? So I read.
It is the neck through model not the Studio with the set neck.
Black hardware....
Anyone know if it IS indeed a LE for this year?
This is the last one they had in Stock.
Should have the deal wrapped tomorrow and Hope to have it and post up pics officially in the near future.

The only cherry red ones I have seen have been studios, but there are many wise 'Bird owners here better informed than I. Not aware of a LE model this year.
I did see godofthunders thread on the Cherry one he picked up. I had been watching this one for a few days and then decided to jump on this rather than wait it out for that elusive white one...IF I really like this...I will find the right white one at some point down the road.

They retail for more money than the Vintage Burst IV's...But I got a better price , so this is a no brainer really.

I have heard rumors from two sources - one an employee at GC and another an employee at Gibson - who claim that there is a white bird on the way that will be a limtied run, similar to the limited cherry bird run. Not sure if I want to hold out for the white one since they do come up used on ocassion - or jump on a cherry bird. Too many cool basses from Gibson this year! :
