I'd be careful there, while Thunderbird PGs all look the same, they definately are not.
Overall size, and screw hole placements vary greatly, Epi and Gibson parts do not interchange.

I like the look of it...a bit celtic goth of sorts...unique.
But will look into it more for sure before I go ahead and order one...
I like the way the bird looks bone stock... so no big hurry to switch up the pg.

Cheers to RipTopaz & stiles72 for the info on the strings. Definitely will give them a go. Which gauge do you use? 45 to 105 or 50 to 110.
Thanks Tbird 1958 for the picks. I have loosened the strings and turned each screw the same amount which has dropped the action. I have also dropped the pickups - Neck lower on the E & A sting and the other way around on the bridge pick up. Sounds good but still trying to balance out the volumes.

My local store only stocks BB's in 45-105, but I'd like to try 110's if I had the chance. I have 110 flats on my P-bass and a couple of my fretless SR's and I dig them.

Hey folks,

A quick question from a Thunderbird wanna-be: Aside from the graphics/inlays/Opti-Grab, is there anything superior about the current Nikki Sixx Thunderbird to warrant the extra money? I'm not a Mötley Crüe fan at all, but like the appearance of the bass as being different to the stock vintage burst.

I've seen the photos of our wonderous mod's chrome upgrades and would do exactly the same myself (chrome, glorious chrome), but wonder if it is worth spending so much on an instrument if there's no real difference to a stock Tbird apart from superficial graphics.

BTW, are the controls V/T on the current Nikki Sixx model? Are both pickups selected by default, or can you select individual pickups? Yeah, I'm a T-bird newb...

I'll share some pics of mine as it's changed from the stock Mk.II model, love of chrome is, unfortunately a very expensive form of GAS. Your questions re: the pickups/wiring are certainly valid BTW, as they do appear slightly different than the standard ones and the stock wiring on the Mk.II is V T Killswitch with no ability to adjust between the pickups.
Anyway, this little (very expensive ) saga starts with a new 2009 Nikki Sixx Mk.II.........

An interim point, note the stainless - not chromed yet PG and TRC

The begining of a very expensive chrome trip.

The stock pups.

The stainless parts as well as the bridge and Opti-Grab after chrome plating, the bass is still wired V T K.

And last, rewired V V T, with new knobs, this wiring layout is much more versitile and the bass sounds much better this way.

Another differrnce with the Sixx.2 (and help keep me honest Mark) is that the body wings are figured maple, not mahogany. The fretboard also is different, being ebony as opposed to the standard rosewood. Mark's original pups even look more like the ones in my Blackbird- which are a bit hotter than the stock ones that were in my '07 Thunderbird IV.
