Question about the strap button... I thought all Gibson made strap button is located at the back of the neck. Why is the Blackbird located at the heel? Does this only apply to the Blackbird?

Question about the strap button... I thought all Gibson made strap button is located at the back of the neck. Why is the Blackbird located at the heel? Does this only apply to the Blackbird?
First off the heel is the back of the neck. Second the only reason why the blackbird has the pin at the original Thunderbird location, is cause the bottom button is moved onto the left wing. therefore, it doesn't neck dive. If you were to do so on an epiphone thunderbird, it would still neck dive quite a bit since it is not neck through like the gibsons.
Nubs - how is the B string sound and tension? How hotter are the Max compared to the '66's

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL GIBSON LOCATION FOR THE THUNDERBIRD STRAP BUTTON.
They moved it on the Bicentennials in '76. Also note the redesign on the top horn.

Those are EX5 pickups in the REV52, they're based on the '66. On a scope a MAX has +3db higher output than a '66, quite a bit louder and darker sounding with more grind.

Well, i've seen it on the top horn from 63-79. Please exclude the non reverse model thunderbird from 66-69.

You may have seen it on '63-'65s but that wasn't where it was originally. Gibson put bass strap buttons on the neck heel only in the 50's and 60's, guitars too if IIRC. Here's a few examples:

1966 Epiphone Embassy (made in Kalamazoo, USA with the rest of the Gibsons)

Back years ago I nearly pulled the trigger on a Nikki Sixx Blackbird from Musician's Friend. It was on sale and was WAY under a grand...... I have kicked my own ass so much that I have a callous.
I always loved the "mystique" of the Bird, but never really dug the "sunburst" finish... I'm sorry if I have offended anyone. The shape just drove me nuts!!!! So a few years later I thought that I would give one a go, and found out that the Blackbirds are out of sight price wise... Then a couple years after that I seen the red color Sixx sig and started looking... I had one on Ebay in my sights, and decided to wait a day or so. The very next day my wife comes up and says "This guitar is really pretty", so I look.......AND THERE SHE IS!!! The Cherry finish Bird that I have been waiting for!!! She's here and I LOVE IT!!!! It's just so damn SEXY!!!!
everything on this bass it tight!! the B is solid and not "farty" at all the max compared to the 66's.. i have never heard them. but i do know they are fabulous it just barks and growls, i thought my old warwick had some bark but it doesnt come close to the REV52!
I thought your JAEbird might have the thunderbucker 66's on it. I have the same amp setup as you.
my JAEbird is gonna have thunderbuckers in it real soon i am just not sure which ones i am gonna drop in there....
I'm really tempted to get one of the Thunderbucker 66's for my Bach NR. But I could easily be convinced that the Max pickup is the way to go.
carlo called the particular PUPs in the prototype Max5's he told me that the Max's that are wound more would even have more growly punch, and to that i would say HOLY CRAP! i may spring for a set of those for my studio pro V, cuz after playing the REV52 and A/B-ing the two the Gibby is lacking a bunch......
hey! not a member of the club or owner of a t-bird... yet. I figured this would be the best place to ask this question. just real quick, the Gibson thunderbird is neck through body one piece right? or does the neck come off? and they are usually mahogany right? thanks t-birders!

Go back up this page and take a careful look at the backside shot of Carlo's (Dadagoboi ) early '60s T Bird, you'll notice different colored wood running the length of the bass. It is a multi-ply ( usually 9 ) construction neck using mahogany and walnut. They are laminated together to form a center block, with the body wings being separate pieces added on.

I was thinking of getting a t-bird body from warmoth, but then I started looking into it and found out that you really can't just buy a t-bird body, they come as a whole, since I'm into keeping it old school I'll probably opt not to go with the warmoth body + warmoth neck. but instead maybe look around for a used Gibson at a few local shops. thanks man!
