might be late to the game here but I stopped at guitar center today and they had a new epiphone thunderbird 4 not pro or classic and it had a 1.5" nut. the color was a bit more walnut in appearance. very nice looking and the 1.5" neck played great. epiphone is really stepping it up! the store also had a worn/faded gibson explorer and V bass, and said they expected to receive a thunderbird also. said they were gc in store only models.

Some before and after shots of my Burny Thunderbird after modifiying the pickups from black plastic.....( Ugh ) to Polished Nickel. The covers are from Mike Lull, if anyone is interested I'll post the how-to pics as well.
The stock bass had an odd mix of Polished Nickel and black plastic.

Okay, here ya go Clint, it was a pretty easy fun project - The PG was a super easy deal too, just some tape, the stock one was just too plain it may change in the future.
New cover and ring in Polished Nickel from Mike Lull.
Stock pup
Srtipping the plastic cover with a Xuron cutter.
Stripped but before I drilled new mounting holes to line up the the Lull cover.
And after drilling, mounted in the bass before the rings were applied.

I was taking some pics of the new Mesa rig and figured that a shot with the Lull T4 was in order. Actually used this exact rig last night for a gig.
On a side note and in honor of our fearless leader, I'll be taking a pic of this Lull in front of my new 2013 Subaru Outback in 4-6 weeks when it arrives.

I was taking some pics of the new Mesa rig and figured that a shot with the Lull T4 was in order. Actually used this exact rig last night for a gig.
On a side note and in honor of our fearless leader, I'll be taking a pic of this Lull in front of my new 2013 Subaru Outback in 4-6 weeks when it arrives.

It was pretty with those cutters Todd, they're pretty sharp and all you have to do is just get one small part started, then you can peel the whole pickup easily - the plastic is actually brittle, I might have spent 3 minutes apiece on those. Gibsons work the same and I think the hole spacing won't require any drilling either.

Our first show ever in Tacoma. we had a great time the event organizers took good of us, providing roadies, food, drink a nice big stage and a first rate sound crew. It turned out that their lead man is a big fan and was excited to see us play, we have about 600 peeps and it was truly a day to remember!
It was 80 degrees out which left me gassed after a 45 min. set but it was well worth it, we took home a cool 1k and memories for a lifetime - I love my band!

Some pickups fit in TBird covers with less work, standard 35 series for instance. Seymour Duncan, EMG, Artec, etc. All you have to do is file the corners to fit in the rounded covers. The holes line up perfectly.
OTOH the covers don't strip off easily on an SD. I ruined one attempting it.

I've done the outdoor gig w my metal tribute band (meaning wigs and costumes), but fortunately they were all in Winter. If we had to play outside right now in NOLA Summer, we'd probably need medical personell on site!!!!
That looks simple enough Mark - didn't realize the black plastic would peel off easily like that. Good to see the underside of the Burny pups too - would be curious how they simialr they are to the Epi Pro pups, and whatever TB+ version they will be putting in the new Epi Classics.
