Thunderbird Club Pt.IV

Hey guys!

So I'm a recent new thunderbird owner (picked up a goth thunderbird, absolutely loving it! Pics soon)

Really digging how I can dial in all the tones from my jazz bass except with more punch.

Any suggestions on mods to add a little brightness to it? I'd really like to stay passive, but I'm open minded

try turning your treble on your amp a little. this will give you the brightness. or you need to try a paddle

DR Stainless are about as zingy as they get - plus the stay bright for a long time 45-105. and you might dial the bass back a little on your amp too.

I have a goth as well and i have the mids on my amp all the way up(i dont have low or hi mids) and the bass and treble are about @1oclock.

I'd say turn the mids all the way up (and if you have low and hi mids, play with the settings between both before tackling the bass and treble controls) once you found a good middy sound, boost your treble a bit and either keep the bass @12 o clock or back it off just a wee bit. hope this helps. The Black one is a '76 Gibson, the setneck is a Greco Thunderbird II

I figure I should post a picture of my Thunderbird. I've had it since Jan. It was a mess when I got it from MF. I had it professionally set up and still hated it. I decided to make a few adjustments on my own (scary) and now I like it a whole lot better. I apologize for the horrible lighting in the room.

Just wanted to share my current neck dive experience

My "2011" Epi bird came with the stock pin replacing the backplate's top right corner screw, this being no help whatsoever with the neck dive issue.

While I was using a regular 2 Inch GUITAR strap I couldn't let go of the neck for a single second without the neck slowly building speed as the headstock headed for the floor.

After reading all of your posts regarding this familiar TB problem I was already thinking about repositioning the pin but then I got this new 3 Inch BASS strap, been using it for a little over a month now and surprisingly it has fixed the neck dive a 99%.

i just got a Gibby studio pro V in cherry from a great TBer, and i have noticed after gigging a couple times with it and practice at home the neck get a little "tacky" and sticky feeling while i play. Now my other basses, Jaebird IV, epi thunderbird pro IV Lakland 5501, and Lakland Scheff V have more of a nitro laquer type finish, am i imagining things here or is there something i can use to polish the neck to prevent this or what?

I like Hi Beams on my '76s, I hate to say I don't recall if they're round or hex core! They are very durable, I pound the living hell out of a bass with a pick for show, DRs take a lot of abuse and keep their brightness better than any other string I've tried. That said, I do use Ken Smith Rockmasters on a couple basses, and specifically Dean Markleys on My Lull.
