Oh no!!

My Gibson Tbird's pickups are making a god awful buzzing sound. It's been doing this for a short while, but today it really stood out. Any ideas on how to fix it?

in what kind of wall socked is you amp plug into?
grounded?
which power group in your house are you using.
because a lot of differed electrical appliances (TVs, computers, lights) on the same power group can cause the buzzing sound.

Oyeah is the buzz still there when you hit a note?

Does anybody know what type of switch is in the nikki sixx bass? I'm planning on re-wiring my goth to Killswitch-volume-tone. since my bridge pickup volume pot is scratchy as hell and ill be getting more output.

Yeah the plastic was nice and smooth. It left a little stain, but with some elbow grease and some "Krud Kutter" (degreaser/stain remover spray) it looks like a plain white pickguard.

WD Music (wdmusic.com) will make you a custom pickguard, you just need to trace yours on a regular sheet of printer paper and mail it to them. I'm getting a quote from them for a plain black pickguard, so I'll let you know how much they're asking.

Pickguard Heaven is a MUCH better company - I'd check with them if I were you... Here's an example of a standard Jazz PG I had to send back to WD Music:

They also ripped me off for $10 with an upcharge(above the advertised price) on another PG on the same order, then refused to refund the $10 when asked... Lastly, the PG screws on the same order were absolute crap - I didn't even use them, but since dealing with WD Music was such a crappy experience, it was better to throw them away rather than have any further contact with such an awful company...

In short - I wouldn't recommend WD Music to anyone...

You need a On On switch.

I'm glad you posted that as well as I've been having similar issues, I plan on checking that out when I get home. There's always a slight buzz through the amp, but it gets worse when I touch my knee to the floor of the shed we practice in...figured it was some sort of grounding issue.

I used an on\off toggle switch from Radio Shack. Looks just like the one that RedneckBBQ posted, but the tab says on-off. Those tabs slip off tho if you want them off.

I'd echo georgestrings advice on the noisy pickups, especially if they were quiet and have changed suddenly.

The on/off switch is similar to what Gibson used on my Mk.II Nikki Sixx, but the wire terminals are screwless and smaller. Overall depth may be a concern, I'd be sure to check a better electronics supply place.

You're very welcome - one of the PGs for my Sterling 5 HS came from Pickguard Heaven, and it's absolutely perfect - their prices aren't bad, either...

Regarding the bridge ground on a T-bird: if you know how to use a multimeter, check for continuity between the jack and the bridge... In my case, resoldering the bridge ground wire to the pot inside of the control cavity totally took care of it - it wasn't soldered very well from the factory...

Played one last week at Chicago Music Exchange and I was floored by how it played and sounded. Expensive, yes, but worth it in my opinion.

how did you connect the wires to the switch if it's screws and not solder?

I removed the screws haha.
And than your left with the screw holes, and they work just like the antlers on a volume/tone pot.

Lead guitarist wanted bass chords all night for this band so that what I did, set neck maple version has more growl with 'tang.
It's heavier than the standard walnut mahogany body.

Ya know what really grinds my gears...

I was bidding on a pretty cool modified Goth Tbird on eBay, and was the high bidder at $104...when all of a sudden, BOOM, the seller cancelled the auction. There was only like 9 hours left and nobody else was really bidding, so my guess is the dude was like "oh crap, I'm not getting nearly as much as I thought I was!" and decided to cancel. Weekend ruined. </rant>
