I like Fenders. They are nice flats. How would you contrast the tone between Fenders and LaBellas?

Fenders are more middy with less bottom, I don't think the new ones sound as good as the old ones though. Fenders aren't made as well as the La Bellas and don't last anywhere near as long as La Bella's do.

Are those the DTFs?

Yes, I have then on an EB4-L and they sound good on it. .105's. I go back and forth between Rotos and DTF's, crazy I know. I have Rotos on most of my basses right now. Most pros used .110 back then though, the Jamerson set. Carol Kaye used to use the stock Fender strings wherever they were back then. I bought a new P bass in 1970 and liked them.

Oh, La Bellas are much smoother to the touch also, they were pretty much the go to string for most pros back in the 60's.
Thanks. My Fenders are really smooth, not like LaBella Low Tensions. They are as smooth as any string I ever played. I was thinking the Fenders might have more mids. To me, they kind of sound like Chromes, but not as bright and with more mids.

I'm not crazy about Chromes, too trebly for me if I want a flat wound sound. I've never tried low tension La Bellas either, I like a little push back when I pluck but the DTB are very smooth.

…I assume it’s not too much tension for a non compromised intact BaCH headstock, correct?

I have a set of those 1954s.
FYI They are really stiff!
I played one gig with them on a Warmoth build I did (effectively a Pbass) and ended up with blisters on my plucking fingers.

One more thing, if the neck can handle them, you can put the action really low with no buzzing so they're really not that hard to play, you'd probably have to have someone open up your nut though or they'll ride on top making the first few frets uncomfortably high. Gibson necks seem pretty strong to me.
