Thunderbird Club

The general population is a real hoot. Just got schooled on the intrinsic personal and self-edifying value of tube amps by some rather needy individuals.

Lol, hey I like tubes too. But it's not pathological...

agree - rock what ya' got (what works predictably and dials your sound) :bassist: snobs on any level are … (insert your own personal reflection here)

Saw a great band for the second time last nigjt, the first time being over a year ago. The band was excellent, but their lead guitarist had issues with his gear...again. his rig was noisy, which was probably the tubes in his head. I'm not sure what brand of head he was using, but don't get a tube head of you can't afford to replace your tubed regularly. That his cab was a Crate didn't help a lot, but he's a very good player and made the most of what he's got...he just needs "better".

Hey all. The intonation on the E of my greco is way out, can anyone give me a quick run through on fixing it?

Cheers

How do I set up my Stratocaster® guitar properly?

Near the bottom, the section called Intonation (Fine Tuning). It can be a fiddly process, and a real pain in the *** on the 3-point bridge. You need like a right angle flat head to properly do it.

...but don't get a tube head of you can't afford to replace your tubed regularly....

Definitely if they're noisy they need to be swapped, but really there's no need to regularly replace tubes, they can last absolutely ages. Two of my Sunns still have their original (as far as I can tell) Tung-Sols and RCA power valves.

Speaking of valves, man, I really want to get my hands on a Marshall-style JTM/JMP and a proper stack of 4x12s. Want to run it as a treble rig next to the Sunns. Get one of those tall, early style 1982B cabinets and another straight cab up top.

Don't hate, but posting this for sale here. Needs some neck pocket rehab. 2 necks, 1.5" is burst, the 1.7" is pelham blue

I noticed an Epi Thunderbird in a local hock shop 'Dad n Daves' :) - anyway, it is a vintage sunburst neck through with 3 in a row controls. So just like a Classic Pro.
They want $550, I think with a fairly battered hard case.
I won't be getting it but I will be passing the tip along.

So the question is: how do I 'age' it? And when did the passive neck through style Epi's get the Gibson pickups?

Found this on the local Craigs List. No affiliation to the seller whatsoever but someone ought to jump on it. If it's still there later this week might do so myself... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. I REALLY don't need another bass but at that price...

Definitely a good price if you're local, and it includes the hard case! ...unless it's just going to collect dust.

Quibbling about preamp valves when it's the output valves/transformer making *that* sound...
Funny thing is that I never, ever use valve amps for bass. Guitar, sure. My bass preference is Acoustic Control solid state. There's solid state and then there's that kind of solid state. It's a rabbit hole I went down early and have stayed in. Funny thing is that I really like a 360 stack or a 320/408 stack. I'm nowhere near as happy with a 370. I have had all of 'em and still play through a 360 on a fairly regular basis.
