Have to say, never a fan of KISS or GS... but the retro vibe of this promo is perfect, if not nauseating. I unfortunately had to live through this period...![]()
Do we have a bunch of new members to initiate? So you backed up and left.

Joking aside, good on you for doing so.
I will definitely try to. Not sure what the plans are. But I haven’t been to it since the pandemic started. And really no need to at this point. I expect I’ll make it up there for a week at some point this year, if for nothing else but to be sociable. I would love to take the VP off your hands, but I’m sworn to GAS abstinence for the remainder of the year. Of course should a Nikki Sixx become available, I might have to beg for mercy…Let me know if you're coming up to your office on a weekend
You can hear how it sounds though an 80's Peavey amp...

I have no problem saying I like KISS, at least thru their first 5-6 records, being a fan of all the great UK Glam bands (Slade, Mott, T-Rex, Bowie, The Sweet, etc) really helped of course. At the time I saw them in May of '75 they were really hitting their stride on stage, they were fun, exciting to look at, and very much not like all that Pop music that I heard on AM Radio. I had already started playing the bass ( I had a Japanese EB-0 copy) two years before, Gene and KISS just made me want to be in band like that, the hair the makeup, all of it, I loved it! Gene isn't 'all that" on the bass, but he is a better player than most would give him credit for, he knows how to serve a song very well.
This is fun, almost sounds like The Faces.
Detroit Rock City live, I still dig it.
All too often Gene's activities outside of KISS are what folks judge him by, I've never been concerned with that aspect of him, he's an entertainer, no more or less, and his opinions or BS don't carry much weight with me (same as anyone else in the 'business") I give him credit for making me want to keep playing and learning the bass, he made it look cool and exciting in way that few others did - I certainly wasn't getting excited about the bass by The Beach Boys or any of that prefab pop stuff, it may have been more complex musically but it didn't evoke any emotion from me, KISS and all the rest were visual, loud - raucous drums and guitars, weird long hair and clothes, as a young person coming of age it really attracted me - I was a strange and awkward child.
TLDR; I like Gene and KISS.
I'm likely the only member of Talkbass to actually wear silver platform boots onstage - So glad I did!

I totally get it why you and others like them. They just weren't on my radar even though I liked T-Rex, MTH and Bowie. I had MTH's and Bowies 1st LP's before anyone I knew. Piper at the Gates of Dawn also along with Hendrix, Cream, Traffic, Led Zeppelin and of course the Vanilla Fudge. So not making a 'value' judgement on Kiss, just expressing my personal preferences related to that fun promo. That style of advert was everywhere in the '70s-''80s and I was glad to see it go. I dig Floyd, I remember this tune but the first version I ever heard was by Duane Eddy:
(There are some advantages to being a geezer, you get to remember experiencing all sorts of musical styles as they came and went)

Micro nuclear is getting a lot of attention. One reason is several companies are finding a use for the spent fuel that doesn't require 50,000 years in a salt mine. Plus, they don't generate a lot of waste. Not sure the manufacturing techniques of these companies are fully thought out, but it is a possible solution. Not only is Green not so green, it’s rarely even black and is frequently red.
Unfortunately, I’ve been out of the Power Plant field long enough now I don’t think I have any serious engineering contacts left. But at the end of the day, if you can find a way to spin a turbine nonstop 24/7/365 then you’re half way there. The other half of the picture is minimizing the by product or finding a good use for it.
I would think Micro would offer some interesting advantages by being more localized, less capital intensive and having less transmission losses in the distribution systems. It’s an interesting time to be in the Energy business as long as you can successfully navigate through the politics and special interests.
Another question, @JIO
What make of bass is this?

Actually there's a connection to that mystery bassist, he kind of replaced Foster but did not play the bass at that time...
I had the same type of issue at Solyndra. We were providing software to model and optimize their complex manufacturing environment. Our software can also predict product costs. We found that they were essentially paying people to take their product. When we let them know, management said no one was allowed to do anymore cost modeling...can't have the DOE loans getting pulled for lying on the applications.Politics ruins everything.
Last year I was working at a 'green' company; removal of CO2 from stack gas. No one wanted to discuss thermodynamics and the conservation of energy - any energy you get out of the product came from somewhere. There is no free lunch. But the CEO had no problems misrepresenting what could be done (probably because he didn't understand), then expected everyone else to cover for him. My reputation is more valuable that anything they could pay me.
I left as I uncovered unethical behaviour that was threatening to become criminal.
I can't play forFantastic! I could sit through a whole evening of that and come back the next night. Anytime is Blues time! I thought Thunderbirds were for rock and roll....
Tell the guitar player to cut those strings or you'll smack with with that big headstock!
, but love anything that is 12 bar blues-ish. BB King, The Thrill is Gone sounds really good on a Tbird and simple enough for a hack like me.
Thunderbirds are the masters of all genres and you can look cool doing it.And he'll be fixing all our broken down and buzzing equipmentOh crap! This gets better and better! By the time the big visit is over, Chuck will have no cars or basses and his house will be Hostel for hippies.![]()

OK, Dad!
My Dad loved him, Roy Clark, Banjo music (not really Bluegrass).
Weird thing I loved watching Liberace as a kid. His playing was amazing to me.
So much of the 60s stuff(pre-Motown, anyway)was recorded using UB's, which were almost inaudible, esp. on small speakers.I like a really wide range of music, I did draw the line at Liberace though (and Lawrence Welk), I really got into 50's music during the revival during the late 70's.So much good stuff I missed. I even like a lot of the early 60's stuff like Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, etc because of my rock & roll aunt who was about ten years older than me and used to play that stuff on her hifi.
Hey, Roy Clark could pick.OK, Dad!

I don't like Lawrence Welk or "elevator" music. But love Big Band, as far as older popular music goes. I know they were very talented, but watching Lawrence Welk makes me want to drink heavily (which I don't do anymore). Give me Hee-Haw any day. It was funny and stupid and supposed to be stupid and funny, and I'm not a Country fan.I like a really wide range of music, I did draw the line at Liberace though (and Lawrence Welk), I really got into 50's music during the revival during the late 70's.So much good stuff I missed.
