A (large) number of years ago, when I was downtown working at an investment bank, I was returning from lunch. Some activist/charity people were all over the sidewalk doing some sort of awareness/collecting for some kind of vegan/vegetarian program. They asked as I was passing "Do you love animals?" I replied "Yes, they are delicious!" and kept walking.

Yes, that was it. That line from Alex was perfect.

You simply applied Darwinism to life. But I'm sure the clarity and reality of that logic was lost on them, in addition to not being found humorous.

I've got Roto RS66's on mine too, I just started playing rock here again so I think I'll be putting a new set on it. I've had the same ones on mine for about 6 months now and I've played it quite a bit, they're getting a little tired although they still do sound good with a pick. Quite a difference from the old days when they went dead in a month, I don't know how much of that was my heavy hands or just that they're made a lot of better nowadays. I can remember when a lot of players used to boil them , I tried it a few times and they got their zing back for a few gigs at best so figured it was a waste of time.

I don't have any SS 66s around, but did have a new set of the Nickel plated. Sounds so good at home I'm almost certain it will not sound as good in a big room and in a mix. I'm hopeful. About half of my basses sound good at home and out. The VPs are OK at home, the '64 is literally uninteresting at home, but live they all surpass anything like what they sound like at home.

I'm not crazy about nickel strings, they sound like dead SS strings to me. I used DR Sunbeams for a while though, I have DR High Beams (SS rounds) on an EB-3 and they sound great.

Not Ringo or Ginger but Jackie Lomax. A friend of The Beatles' who later joined as a lead singer to Badger (Tony Kaye's post-Yes group).

I have a theory that the reverse IV featured in the photos could be the same bass John Gustafson played when he was with The Merseybeats. But that's a theory anyway.

Clapton's SG named "The Fool" seen in the photo did belong to Lomax who got it from Harrison who got it from Clapton. From Lomax it went to Todd Rundgren who put it to a good use.

Love Jackie Lomax. Saw him live back in the mid 70's at Central Park.

I was joking as I'm sure you know, my next guess was going to be Keith Moon, but I've never seen Jackie Lomax, I do know who he is and have heard a few of his tunes but have never seen him that I know of anyway.

I don't like real bright strings, but do like the mids of SS 66s on some basses. I shoot for big thick punch. But I've got everything from SS to darkish thumpy flats on basses.

There is hope for music, maybe. I watched a recent interview with Al and Geddy where Geddy said that he saw where 70% of youth are listening to music from “our generation” (his words, pointing to himself and Al), and was astounded by that, and added that this “was some condemnation of the state of music today.”

The mids stay on them but I palm mute quite a bit with bright strings or use my PAF flannel mutes. I figure it's much easier to tame brightness than to try to add it when it's not there in the first place.

I dig Floyd, I remember this tune but the first version I ever heard was by Duane Eddy:
