Speaking of which, what specs would tell me if the CP I’m picking up tomorrow is considered a 2013? Manufacturing date is 2/14 but given other strange Gibson/Epiphone serial numbers….

1st. 2 numbers in the serial code.

Is your CP a 2013?

I bought it as a stripped shell & box of parts - the seller claimed it's a 2013, but looking up the serial # was even less reliable than usual with Gibson products.

The pickups that came with it are Gibson-branded, dated 2016, claimed were not the originals.
The other parts (tuners, bridge) were run-of-the-mill Epiphone.


So, dunno?


I do know the pickup spacing/layout, body shape & neck profile are identical to the 2019 VP.

I've never been in love with the pickups.
They're okay, but.....

I'd like to try a set from one of the Gibson Blackbirds from 2001-ish. See if there’s a tonal difference with the pickups in my '08 Epi Blackbird. I love the way they sound.

Well, if nothing else you’ve built up some nice muscles. The CP should feel like a feather now.

I'd say yes on that.
Cause unless someone actually took the time to route, to move the neck pick up back a bit......

I like the Hipshot,
But I’m a sworn believer in a 2 piece.
So that would be the mod for that guy.

#2 needs new pick ups.

The Precision needs a new neck and some form of Humbucker in the P position.

1. The Hipshot bridge does not negate the claw. It can be a two piece.

On 2, Yes, from Scott, those are Chinabuckers in there.
Any of you will suggest all kinds off options.
I personally am leaning towards a pair of Hawkbuckers.

On 3, No way!!! I'll chop my own hands off!

I think your digital clock is malfunctioning. I guessing it is the magnets in the pickups messing things up.

Glad to hear a very non-Thunderbird bass song being played on a T-bird. Further proof it's not the bass.

I just saw a movie on Netflix about Laurel Canyon, "Echo In The Canyon" which had a lot about The Mamas & Papas among many other great 60's CA bands that populated that area and Jakob Dylan put a band together and did a lot of great tunes from the era including a couple of John Phillips tunes and watching someone else do those tunes makes you realize just what a great songwriter he was. Highly recommended to anyone that likes that stuff, they interview a lot of musicians including all of CSN&Y. The only way I could watch it was by setting my VPN to France, it's last day is June 7th I believe. After watching that movie I think Stephen Stills would be a blast to hang around with.

I'm suffering from a left-hand injury that makes playing very difficult. The only way I can make it happen is using correct form and a light touch. Still painful, but I am able to complete a three hour rehearsal and optimally a 45min live set. Live is harder because there are no breaks between songs. Last live show we did two weeks ago, we only did 8 of the usually 13 songs on our set-list. Eventually it will get better...

I have a contracture in my left ring finger that has been slowly getting worse over the years, I have been lined up several times to get it done but something keeps getting in the way. I can still play but guitar is pretty difficult chording with it and it is now getting in the way of certain fingerings on the bass. I whacked my left thumb last month and it still hurts but is getting slowly better. I'm lucky I can still play with all the stuff that has happened to my hands. Broken fingers etc. But then look at Keef's hands, he looks like he has severe arthritis (don't know) and he can still play so if he can do it so can I (not really, he's superman!).
