SIT PowerFlats arrived today(5/31). Installed, stretched, and played on(home only-next gigs 6/10-11). Nice feel and tone , similar to EBCFs and louder. So far I'm happy. We'll see after a coupla gigs. And a coupla months.

Interesting, mines stamped with a '77 SN and the 'second' too.. !!
When I had svt2 pro and fridge the tone was something else.. they were loud daze....!

That's very interesting. I'm not really sure what caused mine to be a "second," but understand that was common back then. A friend who worked there (late 80-early 90s I think), said they could buy them at a good price.

Interesting thought since the music business has changed so much. Not right or wrong, just interesting to ponder. Not that there are no great players these days, but they don't seem to stand out like decades ago to the same degree.

And @GBassNorth VP: 11" 14 7/8"

Those almost the same. I was under the impression the CP was more like the modern Gibson and the VP more like an older Gibson.

My February 2014 CP is 10 1/8" 14 7/16", which looks more like the 2013 Gibson at 10 1/4" 14 5/8".

Yeah, my CP & 2019 VP, laid next to each other, are nearly identical.
The VP is lighter, has the 2-point bridge, a different fretboard material, and the over-large headstock. Everything else is essentially the same.

I remeasured the CP vs IV pickup placements from the 12th fret wire instead of the dots.

2014 CP 10 1/8", 14 7/16"
2018 IV 10 3/4", 14 5/16"

Anyone keeping a list? If not, I'll search for previous posts and compile. Hopefully, all the posts were from the same location (fret wire vs dots).

Here is the one real flaw in the CP. The crack has lifted so I am afraid I am going to catch on it and pull it off. Any suggestions on a fix so it lays flat? I didn't want to try to lift it and apply super glue.

Yes, the luthier group say low viscosity CA glue, then fill any cracks with higher viscosity CA glue. Let cure naturally, then sand and polish flush. Said using the tip of an exacto works well to wick the CA glue under the flap. I have the CA on order and should be here Thursday.

Anyone have an idea what type of strings would have come on a 2013/14 CP? The ones on my CP are original and show no signs of wear. They are very smooth with almost a tape feel but higher tension. I might be convinced to keep that type.

Is your stamp and SN on the tip of the headstock? From scouring these great pages on TB.. I'm leaning on the re-issue of SN's.. but no noticable reasons to second it.. Its a bit unique in it own!! So buttery to play and great with a pick.. WinWin!

The only CP I’ve played was a post 2014 model, and to me it sounded nearly identical to my 2013 Gibson Tbird. That would make sense since the pickups are identical and the placement is nearly identical. I haven’t played a 2013 CP but from the pup measurements it could possibly sound a bit different than the 2014 CP.

Keep us posted. I already have EBCF on one of my birds that I love (capped Goth) but I have other birds that I need to restring and I’d be interested in trying something similar in sound and feel.
BTW - you may have given members of the Princess Club a good alternative to the Cobalts.

Is your stamp and SN on the tip of the headstock? From scouring these great pages on TB.. I'm leaning on the re-issue of SN's.. but no noticable reasons to second it.. Its a bit unique in it own!! So buttery to play and great with a pick.. WinWin!

Yes, both are stamped.

Rule of life: We don't know the reason for why Gibson does somethings because Gibson doesn't know either.

They have reused serial numbers, but in my limited knowledge they seem to be decades apart. So a number could indicate a 1988 or a 1955 (for bad example), but the instrument will be the deciding and telling factor. Someone feel free to correct or clarify.
