so, when you say “from 12th fret” do you mean in the middle of the fret area ??? Or right on top of the fret metal ???

Wondering the same thing. My measurements were from the dot to centerline.

Measured from the actual fret, and if using a construction type tape measure being sure to hook it on to the 12th fret and pull it down to the centerline of each pickup. Considering all the variables (multiple people offering measurements, centerline of pickup not clearly marked, etc) I’d give these measurements a + or - accuracy of about 1/16”. It’s just a reference dimension, not something I’d route a body or pickguard to without double or triple checking first.

I had a gibson blackbird for a bit.. what a horrid thing.. looked the schizzel but sounded putrid.. this year saw the new arrival in the fold.. 4003sBT.. hipshot in and Set up.. great contrast to the '76.. Ampegs.. on advice from Joe Caladno Monster Magnet bassist.. nice fella...sweet!

If you compare probuckers with 60s Gibson pickups, they have a different tone. Probuckers are more fuzzed out than earlier pickups.

Ha! Not sure. The studio owner built them and I do remeber him saying that he spent a lot of time researching where to get, and what type cinder blocks to use. I just can't remeber if what reason was given!

I have to take it easy on my left thumb, as I anchor with it on the E string, sometimes on the pickguard depending on the bass, it is slowly getting better, I think I may have a little hairline fracture, ibuprofen helps.

Funny you mention that. I messed up the forth finger on my right hand when I fell doing my brush clearing project. It happened a couple weeks ago and it still hurts. Thank God it wasn’t my fretting hand.

I just realized how unusual the fb position markers are on that bass... two (usually at the 12th fret) at the 9th fret... and 3 dots at the 12th fret. (22 fret neck) My 20 fret '63 Burns of London medium-scale Vista Sonic has three dots at the 12th fret (like yours) - but one dot everywhere else. Small detail... but odd, as in - either all the rest should be doubled, or all the rest single... why doubled only at the 9th, 15th & 17th fret?

I believe multiple dots means you're out of the money range for bass.

Thanks. I'm familiar with the sound of both. I'm interested in comparing construction of each. I have not seen a Probucker 760 stripped of it's cover.

I've had bad luck with my hands over the years, I'm lucky I can still play. No real arthritis though so I'm thankful for that, my father had it bad in his hands.

But he went through the various settings so that’s better than many these days.

I remeasured the CP vs IV pickup placements from the 12th fret wire instead of the dots.

2014 CP 10 1/8", 14 7/16"
2018 IV 10 3/4", 14 5/16"

Anyone keeping a list? If not, I'll search for previous posts and compile. Hopefully, all the posts were from the same location (fret wire vs dots).

Here is the one real flaw in the CP. The crack has lifted so I am afraid I am going to catch on it and pull it off. Any suggestions on a fix so it lays flat? I didn't want to try to lift it and apply super glue.

Yeah, he just generally goes from what he's been told about them, he's not a T-bird expert, or even primarily a bassist. He's not too bad a player though, imo



He's demo'd a few Thunderbirds before, generally with the same rig iirc; you could probably search their channel for the others, if you wanted to A/B them.
