Another thing is they also changed the wiring, pre-1972 EB-3's have the choke in the circuit with both pickups selected (pos 3), taking all the bottom out of the bass which never made any sense to me, with the post-1972's the choke is only in pos 4 and is the neck humbucker, you can solo it with the choke or without in pos 1. I always unhook the choke in mine as they all 1970 or older.

We Massachusettsanians use all the letters in the alphabet except for "R", Can you please go pahk the cah? People pick up on it anywhere I go in the U.S.
I absolutely can not pronounce or trill the double R in Spanish. It's considered a speech impediment out here. Kids here go to Speech Language Pathologists for that, way too late for me.

Had to get a bigger pedalboard! I have a couple of 3-4 piece gigs coming up and I’m going to try thickening with the B9. So far it seems to be a matter of figuring out the wet/dri mix for the loudness of the band/room.

I have mentioned before, but will say again. I have 65 EB0. single mudbucker at the neck. I disconnected one of the coils to run as a single and took the offending cap that's wired straight across it out of circuit. Easy reversible 30 minute mod with a soldering iron. Opened up the sound to an incredible degree and also dropped the output to a more useable level.
I can now use the eb0, a p bass, and a t bird one after the other on stage without changing eq or gain levels.
They all sound different, but have similar useable levels and sound scape. Unlike your normal overpowering mudbucker.
Give it a try folks !

@wolfkeller Some Thunderbird EMG stuff here.

Really good/very informative vid. All mods spot-on and the resulting bass sounds awesome - very much that version of an angry T-bird. (for that sort of music, which sounded cool) Many trad players are against active basses - but when done right (like anything else) it rocks.

I don't like the way they look either and on some Gibsons you can't get the action low enough.

Once again - we are fortunate to have choices in the land of unlimited consumer choices... I have installed the Supertone (great name by the way) bridge on a couple of T-BSO's and they work perfectly and look way better than the ill-designed 3-point. But... that's just me expressing my opinion. YOMV.

I went to his other emg comparison and was disappointed was no TB HZ’s. They were the ones that I want to hear compared to all the others.
I’m not looking to change pups but I like to stash little info snippets away in my head just in case

What he addressed was correct - stating that lighter tuning pegs (including the Dunlop Drop-D), a heavier bridge and the strap-peg relocation helped the chronic issue of all Thunderbird basses. (if you are honest) Many non T-bird advocates exaggerate this design shortcoming - but as a die-hard T-bird player, I am here to tell you it is real, and because we love the bass - we deal with it. If this isn't too obvious, denying it is living in denial.

Truth be told, my favorite shaped Gibson body. I wish I could afford a custom made EB-J3, (Jeff 3)
With pick up placement like an original TBird IV.

If a long scale isn't a problem an Epi EB-3 is a good platform. I originally planned to use T-bird pickups for this but eventually went with the Artec humbuckers. The neck pickup is in the '60s T-Bird position.
Sounds dark but arrogant if that makes any sense.

Pedals/effects can add so much. I just added the MXR bass chorus deluxe pedal to my chain and so far I think it's a keeper, primarily because it's voiced for bass and also because it offers a really cool flanger option... so two cool pedals in one!... a win-win! It replaces my trusty Ibanez SC10 Super Stereo Chorus (for guitar) pedal, at least until I put it through its paces in rehearsal to confirm. The Ibanez is a nice sounding delay pedal so not slagging’ it.

L- and 10- series Ibanez pedals are great. The DCF10 chorus/flanger has been my main chorus for approximately 30 years. The other two I have don't sound the same but do sound good in their own right. All are especially great with the guitar and the synth.
