Thunderbird Club

As do I currently, and they do sound good on that bass.
Marshall is in love with his SIT equipped 2015, so I thought I’d give those a try for a while. I don’t have SS strings on any birds currently so hopefully it’ll bring a neat new useable tone to the mix. I’ll probably move the tapes from the 2015 to the new Goth and I’ll most likely install a vol/vol/tone/tone layout with .022 caps. That should offer an interesting comparison to my existing capped Goth that has vol/vol/tone and EBCF.
We’ll see if you and I are chasing the same or entirely different tone.

Great. Another thing I have to be scared of... I thought I was making progress when I convinced the monster in the closet to eat the one under the bed.*

I suspect entirely different. My preference is deep, dark, smooth, solid foundation, no frills, finger style. In essence it’s a bass so I want it to sound like one. That said, there are times when strong mids, grit, grind and angry piano are called for. I don’t currently have many options in that Tbird department, for that I usually turn to my Warwick Thumb. So if the 2015 replaces the thumb I’ll be a happy camper.

Been there, done that! And it did come out very good….

I went el cheapo on the pickups (Chinabuckers) because this was just a proof of concept. But in experimenting around with pup locations I found this spacing gave the broadest spread in tonal range. Neck soloed is darn near a Gibson Mudbucker (with an over wound pup it would be spot on). Center pup follows the Fender split P location for that nice deep round tone and bridge pup follows the Fender Jazz location for a bit of burp and grind. Here’s the spacing template laid over a Telecaster, a FSO PJ and a Greco…

I went with a dedicated tone pot for each pup to maximize the differences, so turn on all three pups and adjust the tone pots to where you want them and it’s nearly like having 2 or 3 bass players all tracking at the same time. Very interesting sound, very hifi with all three on. The next step will be to replace each pup with a purpose built unit (30k Gibby Mudbucker copy in a Tbird can if possible + a Lull Tbird bridge pup in the center spot and a special hot wound splittable humbucker in a Tbird can for the bridge (so I can maximize that Jazz bark if wanted). Will probably run north of about $800 for the set if I go that route, that’s the problem with 3 pup basses, they ain’t cheap, and add to that Gold cans and rings and the options disappear quick while the price goes up even more. But certainly a fun build.
I’m pretty sure you can’t fit a mudbucker under a TBird cover. Would you drill holes for the pole pieces?

Who would travel 1700 miles round trip just to play some Thunderbirds (and meet some really great people)?

I would.
Happy Thursday!

One way to ward off the evil eye is to make specific hand gestures. One hand gesture is known as the mano cornuto. To make it, you simply make a fist with your index and pinkie fingers extended.

In the bad neighborhood I grew up in there was a different and non-hispanic hand gesture to ward off the evil eye or look. Required less fingers.

There's a little truth to that.
But if the white nylons are brighter.
Could be my new fav.
But Chucks 2013 sure didn’t lack in
any area frequency wise.
And he’s got the black tapes on his.
thx Jeff…rig adds some serious color as well….graphic EQ (off) not really necessary for this one..

BTW….. that avatar is killing me..:roflmao::roflmao:
