As I prefer a more vintage sound, moar bass
, so the neck pickup is closer to the neck; bridge pup a little further away from the bridge.
Do any of you guys know of bands whose bassist plays Epiphone Thunderbird IV or G Thunderbird (as basic as possible, no mods) I'd like to look up bands, suggestions appreciated.
Kim from the Dollyrots plays a couple Epi Birds, as well as Gibsons. I am blanking on another at the moment but I am sure something will pop into my head.

So I find these basses a bit confusing... is it 34" scale? ...and did they not also make a shorter scale version? I played one like yours when I visited Chicago Music Exchange (awesome store) and I think it was full-scale.
Same as a Thunderbird in length, neck shape and pickups but set neck. You're thinking of the Epi Newport which was roughly little over 30" scale and pickup in the mudbucker position. These are pretty inexpensive compared the Embassy. There were some made in the 70s with what seemed to be something like mini humbuckers. The first bass I ever played.

that's where a T-birds' sound lives.
I got my RNR back from the luthier who was thinning out the neck. It's a huge improvement. I'll take it to band practice on Thurs. to see how it works for me, but I might take it back for him to flatten out the back middle of the neck. The work revealed a beautiful grain. He was also really impressed with how hard the neck wood was (ahem).
