Thunderbird Club

Forgot to add: the band I auditioned for primarily tunes to drop C. That didn't work worth beans with medium gauge strings, so I ordered a set of Dunlop Heavy Cores. I should probably have gone with "heavy", but I ordered "heaviest". TBurt is permanently set up now to stay tuned CGCF. I've used Dean Markley Blue Steels for a really long time, but I'm really diggin' these strings for this application. Its like having a B string that doesn't flop like a lot of B strings do.

This was an EpiGoth I picked up in partial trade for some crap. I needed a backup for a more expensive black&green bass I've got.
EMG MMTW active pickup routed in the neck position with a a Bartolini prototype at the bridge (couldn't make myself paint a proto green). Filled the third pot hole (now it's wired tone/volume on the push/pull, blend on the second knob) and pickguard screwholes. Bedliner on the body and headstock. It's not pretty, but it does the trick.

I'll take member number 666 or 1313, either or is okay with me...........

I dig the bass! What a fun project too.
#666 is yours Good Sir, ask and ye shall receive, Welcome here!

That's lookin' gooooood! I've become quite a fan of deGothification operations. I love the flat black, but the sameness of the pickguard saddens me. Mine too is a work in progress. I've repainted it but haven't done anything with the pick guard yet. Maybe I won't....I don't know what I'm doin', I just know it sounded pretty dang killer into a cranked up Ampeg and a 410 cab. I guess that's good enough for now!:bassist:

LOL!!! :)

Finally someone had the courage to say that!

I've been wanting to say something similar about Geddy's voice for years, but it seems to me, he's a very popular person here on TB and you risk being flamed for a comment like this.

Me, I simply cannot take his voice - tried several times to listen to Rush, to see what the fuzz was all about, but the moment he starts singing I have to turn the music off... :p
I stole or maybe misquoted that line out of one of the Rush documentaries. I actually like Geddy's voice and love his playing. I can't even begin to comprehend playing his bass lines and singing at the same time, plus keyboards and foot pedals.

There's no doubt the man is a super talented musician, I'm just saying his voice is an aquired taste - either you like it or you don't... ;)

I ordered a plain red Thunderbird from x-axe-decals but
they sent me the tiny Firebird decal by mistake. When I brought it to their attention, the seller claimed he'd send the right one, but now he refuses to respond to my ebay messages. Well, I hope my $15 made his day.
So now I found this from another ebay seller.
Why they show it on a Fender, I'll never know.

So I got my 50th anniversary yesterday - 2 days before scheduled... :)

What a gorgeous looking instrument - It's gaudy, but also extremely cool looking at the same time and soo much nicer looking than on the Gibson website.

It came with the nice vanilla scented black/white case as I hoped for - Got almost intoxicated by the scent on my drive home, from picking it up.:

Unfortunately it's overcast today, so pictures didn't come out well under fluorescent lighting.

Here's another pic with it's cousin in TV Silver:

That's absolutely beautiful.
Some might say it's a bit too much, but I'd just wear a black flight suit whenever I played out with a bass like that to balance it out a bit.
Almost too nice to take out of the case!

I've really been loving the orville t birds, its funny I had always thought the chrome and old style tall tuners sucked but now... I'm pretty sure that these were not made lefty. That sucks. I have a tokai I think I'm gna mod too look more like a 70s t bird. So, my tokai has epi shape pups, what can I do about more 70s sounding ones and the covers and rings? Also, as far as tuners? The long post type prefer the non chrome stuff, nickel?
