Thunderbird Club

Interesting it sounds darker - it's basically a T-bird of another mother. With a set-neck it should at least sound the same as a NR. Does it have the same intonation issue that gen I T-birds had?
I was surprised as well. I didn't expect it to sound identical, but more like how most Pbasses sound the same, but with some nuance of difference. I'm likely making it sound as if it doesn't sound like a Thunderbird, which is not true. I've only played two others when in Nashville once. From what I recall they didn't sound exactly like each other either, but there is that whole different string thing to consider. The action was horrible on one and neither was in great shape, one really showed it's age. As for the intonation, yes, same issue. My '64s are both maxed out and a tad more room to adjust would be needed to get it right. How much difference a set vs a neck-through I'm not sure. Small things add up, but I wouldn’t think it would be very noticeable, if at all. Lowering the bridge is maxed as well, and I would like to go lower, thus I use lighter strings.

Looking at the pic, I hope the G string isn’t flat, there’s no more room to bring it forward. Likewise I hope the E string isn’t sharp, not much room to take it back any further. Also looks like the G and D strings aren’t down in the saddle grooves, but that might just be the way the photo was taken. Sure is a pretty bass though and in darn good shape for one that age. The trans red finish gives a hint of the grain underneath, looks like a solid mahogany body. One of these days I’d like to try one of the vintage embassy basses. Maybe when I move in with Donnie. ;)
That was taken just after I got the bass. Intonation is fine util you get to the 12th fret or above. (Not really a problem for me.) Even then, not I've not noticed it while playing. It is really nice that you can see the grain. Often wondered why they never did Thunderbirds in that color. It's basically that red that is on the mahogany backs of many Les Pauls. As for moving in...we can make that happen, but you must bring all your basses and amps. Hopefully our wives will get along. If not there are plenty of places they can move to.:smug:

Thanks for the tip. There is so many adblocks out there, so hard to know which one to choose
Ghostery on Fire Fox (Geco based browsers), Adblock Plus for Brave (Chromium based more data private browser). No ads with either one. Some do work better than others with certain browsers. Using Macbook Pro. I like Pale Moon (due to them not playing thought police as Fire Fox and Google), but they don't have one for Macs yet. Not a good one anyway. If I use Safari (which I never do) I will get ads, but I have no blockers added.

Yes. Darker than the '64 Thunderbird, but same general tone. Nice and light, but gold metal Olympic diver. I need to move the strap button to the neck pocket. Neck has the exact same vintage Thunderbird feel. Same pickups and hardware. Made in the same factory by the same people, from what I've read.

I had lusted after one for many years, but the prices kept climbing over 2k. (not 13k)

As soon as a heard they were reissuing them, I placed an order, and waited 13 months to get my inverness green, and the red one was purchased as a blem because a reflector came off one of the knobs.

they extended the horn ever so slightly, and the 2+2 headstock eliminated any neck dive. very birdlike sound (at least the neck pickup)

I'm considering neck pickup only on the both of them, hottest of the 4 in one and weakest of the 4 in the other...

The pots are CTS, but the factory blend feels a little noodly, I think I usually get alpha for blend knobs and they feel a little more solid.

I had also lusted after a Coronet/Wilshire/Crestwood treble geetar, and same situation, good examples were over 2k.

I'm glad they didn't bring back the donkey dick headstocks....

mahogany and maple make for a kickazz tonemeister combo…

So I know this has been covered but I have no recollection in my psychedelic addled brain. Suggestions for a good stand for Tbirds ?

I just lean mine against an amp in a room full of toddlers....

I have hangers in the important spots in the house, OR a 4/6 geetar rack for outside the howse....

EDIT: rack is a hercules... have another brand that is crap, and I should throw it away....

I have two of these and never had a problem tipping in any direction. I have personally had that problem years ago.;)

One is for bass, I just grabbed a link so this may not be it.

Got a question for you guys. What are your thoughts on straight jack cables vs angled? Not just aestethics and looks but on a technical level.
I prefer 90 degree coming off the back of amps, cabs, and top jack basses. Straight going into an amp and side jack basses. I am guessing you will get 2^(n+1) responses as a minimum. I assume that n=3 given both straight, both 90, and mixed as the options.

Angled ? If it involves geometry I'm not qualified to answer ! Depending on the guitar jack I end up using the angled end in the amp . Like for a strat. On the other hand it works well for the SG. It depends on the instrument.
