Don't make me break out my Ghana Black Stars kit...if I show you my Royal Challengers cricket gear would you feel better? :smug:

AftEr Donnie shamed me the other day about the fretboard on the ‘21 looking dry, I gave it some oil.

I still had the stuff out so I did the ‘13 today as well. The TR needed a tweak and I reset the string height to eliminate a bit of buzz. This is the bird with a couple of high/loose frets at 9 and 12, so getting the correct string height and keeping the action reasonably low can be a chore. It’ll be going to John Caruthers to fix that and some end sprout. I don’t want to be embarrassed by handing over a poorly setup bass to the guru of setting up basses.

Anyway I was thinking about Ken’s issue with the Babicz and the intonation fork blocking the front bridge bolt. Here’s a pic with the intonation pattern of a Babicz set for right handed play with 45-105 SIT Power Steels:

Sorry Ken. I know being a lefty can be a challenge.

Here’s the freshly hydrated ‘13:

Thanks for asking - the cast came off and a nerve analysis confirmed severe carpal tunnel. The fracture is healing slowly but well, but when they did the x-ray that found 2 other issues on top of the fracture. So a two phase operation is scheduled. On Oct 3rd, a (5min) carpal 'relief' surgery and some time yet scheduled a bone-removal surgery. (arthritic scaphoid bone) Apparently there are a cluster of small bones at ones lower hand/wrist that aren't really necessary, and removing them will free-up the nerves and hopefully allow my hand/wrist to get back to 'normal'. In the meantime I wear a removable brace. Next Monday I will ask the Dr if a cortisone shot would give me temporary hand relief so I can rehearse twice a week and do our Sept 17th show more fluidly.

Also, just accepted a Winters Tavern show the Sunday after our Pacifica Performances show where we will debut our new drummer Zach. It will be part of Pacifica's "Fog Fest" weekend, which was cancelled the past two years due to Covid. Because of that - I'm anticipating it being a full house of revelers. (10 bands starting at noon) We have 3, 3hr rehearsal with him before then and I'm confident he can pull it off based on our 1st introductory rehearsal with him which went well. Once those shows are history - the rest of the year will depend on my surgery recoveries but we plan to record 4 originals by Paul, probably by Feb 2023.

Sorry for the long-winded update - but I've had to think in long-range plans a lot lately. :)

I hope you have a speedy recovery.

It's a pretty nice old bass, was playing it last week, I'm attempting to master "Living in the Past" by Jethro Tull and besides the '64 that bass has next best playing neck for me - As you said, "there's just something about a Gibson".
That’s a challenging, but doable bass line. I worked on it a couple years ago. I need to return to it.

My recent acquiiton has a bit of a neck dive. Having a wide strap with suede backing helped. Might as well go all out and change the tuners to ultralights. Also found the bridge on the hipshot ebay store, the have blemishes that they sell. Got the ultralights with the mini clover there too for a good price. I know, its gold. I like it lol. All were drop in, neck dive cured (it wasnt much to begin with). Liking the roundwounds on it still, but man flats are calling me again.

All it needs is a set of gold knobs. Nice.
