Thunderbird Club

I had the release surgery a few months ago.

Ring finger on the right hand would lock in a closed position if I made a fist, very painful to pop it back into position. Went the Cortisone route at first and it worked fine at reducing the inflammation enough to allow the finger to move freely. Then I accidentally hit the finger on something and it started locking up again. Got another shot and all was fine for another six months but eventually started locking up again. Went back for a third shot and the doc said nope. Apparently the cortisone shots weaken the tendons, one maybe two are ok but if that doesn’t solve the issue (and doc said the shot is only about 25% successful) then it’s on to the release surgery.

If I were to do it all over again, I would have still gone with the first shot but then moved on to the surgery if it wasn’t successful. The surgery was a cake walk, and done in the docs office with local anesthesia. Recovery was relatively quick and I’m at about 95% now.
That sounds like trigger finger. The trigger finger release is hardly even surgery. They just stretch out the ligament sheath the tendon runs through.

Never heard The Cult before? :wideyed:

I agree though, I just listen to songs here & there, mostly their stuff from the 80s. Gotta kinda be in the mood for their vibe, I guess?

This is a more well-known song of theirs......
Yeah - bit weird to have not heard of the Cult. They were big in the 80s. Big enough to attract some mockery; any one remember Snow Removal Machine?

I’m a member of the Church of the Purple Silks. Don’t make me call my brethren.
Cult street gang fights. The new reality TV. Have to be more interesting that idiots stuck someplace, but not as intellectually stimulating and informative as the Bachelorette.

(I have seen either. The commercials were more than enough.)

There hasn't been good reality TV since The Simple Life with Paris and Nicole*

* I never actually watched it; I saw a promo for it once and could feel neurons committing suicide...

Considering buying yet another Thunderbird? Seems you need another Thunderbird about like everyone else here really does need another thunderbird. What's to consider?;)

I am noticing (and I got feedback from friends in audience) that there seems to be a difference in output on my A string. E is strong and fat, and D and G are balanced with E, but I drop out of the mix on the A string (not just open A, so I don't believe it's an EQ issue) Recently purchased new non-reverse. Anyone notice similar or know of a tweak? Previous and current basses were mostly all P's that could be adjusted per-string more easily than this it appears, but that's why I am asking. I figure there must be an easy fix.

If others are noticing it, it's clearly not you being overly aware. If the audience notices, it's definitely happening and not in your head or subtle. Some basses are really prone to that. The A string is not normally where this happens and is not the whole string. Not many, but seems more common years ago. I have a new NR and the E is really dominant. But, how much so depends on the strings. I have less volume in a few places. It's not really noticeable except in a live setting with a lot going on.

A few options come to mind:
1. Try different strings. Some are more prone to this than others. Could likely be a bad string.
2. Return it if possible or contact Gibson for warranty if the above makes no difference.
3. Get a compressor. I used to use one all the time years ago because some notes were not well balanced. Doesn't have to be expensive.
4. Take it to where to got it it possible to see if they have any thoughts. But try different strings first so in any conversation you can say you tried that already.

Others may have some great ideas.

To add insult to injury the fret work is lumpy and a bb-sized piece of Pelham Blue finish exited the chat on the headstock for no apparent reason. Near a peg so I don't believe it was user error on my part with an impact. I just noticed it one day out of nowhere. I bought it from Chuck Levins in MD, and they are generally great people so maybe I can work something out with them if I am unable to dial it in to my satisfaction. I think I got a Friday bass maybe, but was so excited by the the color, the sound, and the feel of it that I wasn't very careful in my assessment. After 90 minutes of playing three different Fenders and listening and feeling very closely, I tried this for 30 seconds and was hooked. "I'll take it!" Probably should have slowed down a touch.

Do have it looked at, if not returned. If not the string, it should not be doing that. Something is defective. If I could not resolve it I would return it or get them to fix it. You paid good money and it should sound right. Don't be satisfied with less. Everyone's NR here are really nice basses. Your's should be as well. Keep us posted.

I have a "Spaceballs-The Baseball Jersey" on order. Amongst other things it'll say "COMB THE DESERT" and "We Ain't Found $#@*!". The name on the back will be: COL. SANDURZ*. Number 87(year the movie was made). File pic:

*The ship commander. Played by George Wyner. Spelled like that to avoid 'problems' w/ KFC. Best line: "What's the matter, Col. Sandurz? Chicken?"
This and my other "Spaceballs" jersey/sweater are from "Geeky Jerseys", a Canadian company(n.a.).[Pickering, On]
