Very interesting if true. So PM laid down his bass lines in multiple takes with over dubs of guitar and bass. Thats cheating. No wonder I have such a difficult time with his songs…. well that and I suck at playing bass (and even more so on guitar). He's still a great player though.

I've never heard that any place, but I do know that during their mid period at least, Sgt Pepper etc he would record the bass last after everything else was done though, that's easier too. He would erase a filler bass line from someone else and put the real bass line in.

Dee Murray could pull off everything recorded for EJ's albums live with brio. The rock/funk dance band I was in Montreal in 75 used to play Love Lies Bleeding and the bass line rocked and it got the people up.

Actually sorta easy to imitate the sound by using a Micro POG adding a bit of octave up-just enuff to barely hear it.

Yes, bought it around 1976 with the matching 215m cabinet. Originally for use with a Rhodes keyboard but busted up my hands playing ice hockey and it sat in a closet for decades. Then during covid decided to try bass and brought it back to life. It never gigged, so pretty much a museum piece.

They were big here, my little sister was a fan for their 15mins of fame.
They did a cover of a Vanda Young song Yesterday's Hero which was the first hit for John Paul Young (another £10 Pom, born Glasgow I think) in 1975. BCR toured Oz in 75 or 76 so it would likely have still been around.

If you are surprised about an early single being someone singing about being a Yesterdays Hero… it was George Young's thoughts about the period after The Easybeats, "haven't I seen you before" etc

I have to admit I was a big Elton fan. Still like much of his music. He's got a great voice and is a real deal talent. I can't stand Crocodile Rock. Clever I suppose, but stupid in my book. I either love his songs or hate them.

This may be an urban myth but Elton was a collector of singles (records!) from all over the place and he heard the song Eagle Rock by 50s influenced band Daddy Cool and then went after a rock n roll song with an animal name. I think it may be BS but it has been a local story since the 70s.

Yes, Ross Wilson has a Fox tail sown onto the back of his dacks. The car is a FJ Holden (mid 50s) and the cool guys in the 60s used to have a Fox tail on the aerial. Again, the reason escapes me.
