I don't know where this rates on the list of bad tasting beers, but I do remember it being pretty vile.

Short but uncomfortable surgery... had to inject additional numbing shot... 4 stitches... bandaged-up... feels the same, but worse... drove myself home, (automatic/Element) hand above heart... 5 days until the bandage comes off (keep dry)... move fingers regularly (not much fun right now) make fist (yah right) ... can only hope for 'relief' over time. So now will people look at my wrist and think I tried to off myself?

1. Terrible that he/she would cheap out on local. My surgeon loaded me up for the first one; my hand was numb for about 5 hours post-op. Helped minimize the need for pain relief.
2. Stiff and swollen is normal after surgery. It will reduce over a little time. Trying to move/wiggle fingers is important. You don't want to develop adhesions on the tendons that move your fingers. Strength will take time to some back; weeks to get back to 80%. As I recall, it took 3-4 weeks before I had enough grip strength to use a can opener.
3. If the surgeon is a plastic surgeon (or has seen one do the operation) the scars are nearly invisible. The surgeon puts the incision in a crease. And the scar is more on your palm than on your wrist. 4 Stitches tells me it is probably going to a nearly invisible scar. In Canada, you would have gotten 5 stitches, the government reimburses 5+ stitches at a higher rate than 4 ($30 per stich vs $25 per stitch).


Amusing story: My hand surgery has left me with a scar about 12cm (~3-4") long on my wrist. When anyone notices I just say "You know how sometimes you start to commit suicide, but then change your mind halfway through..."

Among the other things I went through during recovery, one thing I had going on was a significant lump in my palm, which was a result of the carpal release. Seemed like something that might not go away. It did. Despite this terrible break, I was back to playing and full time, 2 day a week rehearsals within about 2 1/2 months. The advice I got from everyone here was “Do your physical therapy!”

Yep, carpal tunnel release is the surgery. It is simply cutting a ligament that gives a bit more room for everything.

The biggest predictor of surgical success is following the therapy afterwards.

I recall they were available in Europe too. At least I had a gas for one back then, it seemed the only viable option for a vintage style T-Bird.

That’s a great price! After trying yours I’m really gassing for one, in Burgundy. I’ve got my eye on a couple but there don’t seem to be any great deals on the burgundy ones just yet.


Hard to tell for sure from the picture provided, but it sure looks like ebony to me as well. If so, that’s pretty rare @Ringhammer, Gibby didn’t make many ebony board birds. The finish IIRC is called tobacco burst.

Well that's better sounding that what I called anything from Miller. Buttweiser was popular as well then, couldn't hack either. Falls City was a cheap beer and was one of several made here in town. Sterling and Papst were the real last resorts for beer around here. But as for Stroh's, I grew up in a bad neighborhood, so Detroit River Water was like Heineken for me. Which I also liked, long before it was cool to drink fancy beer. At some point they stopped making it or at least delivering it around here and reintroduced it. It was different then. So the old Detroit River Water suited me better. Pretty sure I owned stock in the company and can't see why they fell on hard times given my "investment."

That looks like a lot of screws in your left hand. I hope they used left handed screws.

If people look at you funny and think that, tell them you paid someone to take your life. They will really not know what to say. I would go with something like, "Man, those handcuffs were a pain to get out of. Thought I was going rip my hand off."

Sorry you are in that much discomfort, but sure hope in a day or so we noticeably feel better.
