The most glorious bass sound I’ve ever heard was when I played my Warwick Thumb thru that SVT/Berg rig at high volume in an outdoor gig at a biker wedding back in Ohio. The stage was a flatbed trailer with a two story rock wall behind it and thick forest on each side of the open field where the wedding party was set up. Probably acted like a natural amphitheater to a degree. That and lots of volume from the entire band and buckets of enthusiastic (if not completely inebriated) bikers. The bass rig never even broke a sweat keeping up with two guitarists each with their own marshal amps and four by cabs.
I made a trip into Merica and picked the decapitated Explorer after work today.
Before I bought it I had asked the eBay seller if the headstock was included (it wasn’t in the pictures)and the answer was no.
I was cleaning up the packing materials and noticed something heavy wrapped in a huge plastic bag. Surprise!
Hmmm it’s a nasty break, but I could repair it. Check out how thin the neck is where it broke! Or do I go headless?
There’s also a nasty chip out of the top rear point.
It only weighs 7lbs 6oz (with no strings or knobs).

Thats a nasty break but since the headstock ended up being included, maybe it's worth a shot to repair it? Unless you have your heart set on making it headless.
Heading down the street for some window shopping. Only a few blocks away.
I’m leaning toward headless. That neck is really thin…not much there!

Congrats on your 38th Anniversary. Lovely Choice in Color also.
I'd probably remove fretboard and truss rod and make a scarf joint with a new piece of wood to make a new headstock and make sure to add a nice volute. Would gain a lot of strength that way.
P/J always felt unbalanced.. j too weak, except for the tony franklin…

The streets look amazingly clean considering the number of cattle roaming around.
Lots of rain this time of year. Also, ladies sweeping the streets almost every day. But you do need to watch for cow land mines.
Willy - you have a definite abundance of fretless basses. I had one (Pedulla PentaBuzz) that was a great bass but didn’t get much play time at all. I just didn’t play that many songs that called for a fretless so I sold it a couple of years ago. Hats off to you on being able to play an unlined fretless, mine was lined and it was hard enough to play without constantly looking at the neck. Is there a specific type of music you’re focused on that drives the need for a fretless bass, or is it just a preference you have?P/J always felt unbalanced.. j too weak, except for the tony franklin…
