Thunderbird Club

Colour difference in the metal you numpty! But you knew that... Thinking about an EB3 bridge here, although I'm happy to give the 3-point a chance. A higher mass bridge and ultra light tuners would help the balance as well.
Well there's the thanks you get for trying to help someone when you're pissed up... "numpty" :roflmao: The colour difference is big, I have nickel pups and chrome tuners on my bumperbird. The chrome is very silvery and the nickel much more yellow in colour a bit like silver

Man this is a fast moving thread.

Here is my new baby...

I need to take it back in for a set-up next week but we are getting along pretty well.

Please do!

I'll be away on personal business and a band trip with just my phone until next Tuesday, I will add you both to the list at that point. Please be welcome here in the meantime - we are an accepting and fun group here, there's no question to be afraid to ask, share your pictures, videos and good humor - we love it all!

I'll check back in as time allows, maybe with an NYE pic or two.

Happy New year to everybody here, be safe, be happy, life is short, go out and live it!

Here's a photo before and after grinding the flanges off the bushings.

Ringing in the new year by making noise with a Thunderbird? I can't think of too many things that are better to do. I'll be doing something similar, just not in front of an official audience.

It's a little bit difficult to take a photo of, but down in the bushing hole nearest the volume knobs there is a small hole and there appears to be a little wire poking through there. I assume this is a ground wire for the electronics.

There was talk of putting epoxy or glue on the bushings when they are re inserted to the body. If that happens, I assume there is a chance of putting a barrier between the bushing and the wire that it should be making contact with.

The bushings push right back in very easily, until the last 1/4 inch then you really have to give it a shove ( I assume these are tapered and that explains that) . I put a bolt in there to remove it, and couldn't do it by hand, had to get the hammer out again. I wouldn't put any glue in there at all since Epiphone never thought they needed any glue, but the design on the Babicz is different (and probably even less likely to pull out). I think I'm going to just put a little bit of Elmers glue at the bottom of the bushings and call it good. Also avoiding the ground wire in the one hole.

Wet the wood in the holes, it will swell the compressed parts back out and grip the replacement bushings better, no need for epoxy this time

Sitting here waiting for the clown in the UPS truck with my new bird. It's always the same, If I'm gone, they roll up at 9am, if I'm waiting it won't be til 6 pm! I really hate that company. On a good note, both of my Gibson pups are also out for delivery. All I need now are those damb bridge bushings!!! Much modding and dremmeling to be done before it's stage ready.

Thanks! Does it need to dry? Will it swell and stay swollen after it dries? Or should I soak them, give them some time and then put the bushings back in when things are still damp?
Yes let it dry, maybe if you have a soldering iron you could firstly let the water soak into the wood then run the soldering iron (hot) around the walls of the wood to create steam, that will expand inside the cells of the wood and reinflate them better. It will be a permanent job but remember tat some of the cells will have been damaged by the first fitting but not a lot

Here's a laugh for ya. I've been hunting a case for my new bird. I came across the Warwick warlock case, should work. Only place I could find one. So, I put it in the cart to get a final cost and accidently bought it....For $270!!!!! Ahhh! Send several emails and fortunately Warwick refused me the next morning. I measured my BC Rich cases, 52" so those are the only cases that will work, if I ever find one again.

At least it's coming. Chorus in country since 19 Dec and VT DI pre since 21 Dec, maybe they turn up by February. And delivery? Lost count of the times we've watched the postie putting a card in the box saying 'you weren't home, you'll have to collect your mail'.
