Thunderbird Club

Looks like this but black plastic housing

Did notice a thread earlier where the OP was asking which of his four Ps he should sell ... the obvious answer being all of them.
Careful now. Leaking out into the general population upsets the general population. It's kinda fun to upset the general population, though.

BumperBird progress.

Crummy cell phone photo, but you get the idea. Lowe Custom Guitars P-Bird on the left, random bits Tele-Bird on the right. Lots of finish sanding on the random bits body. The Lowe Custom body didn't need any sanding, and the grain has already been polished off. It either didn't need to get the grain raised a few times, or it's already been done. The P-Bird neck and body are hands down nicer than the Tele-Bird. Good thing I'm really a bass playist.

I'm still leaning toward tobacco burst finish on both, because I'm kinda boring that way. And because it's a stealth thing. It's harder to count 'em if they all look the same. But, I'm open to suggestions, so long as they are outrageous. Hot rod metal flake, fluorescent, and iridescent colors are...

Oh, look, a shiny squirrel! What were we talking about?

Squirrel? Where? I loooooove squirrels.

Hate to have to tell you this but the pickup routs in those bodies are the wrong shape. You should send them back and get them to send you the correct ones.
:roflmao: Of course they are wrong! They are BumperBirds. There's nothing right about any of that.

But then he would have NO Ps! I think a much more sensible thing would be to have 3 Ps, 2 Js, at least one Thunderbird and a variety of butt bows! As evidenced by recent posts, you could always keep the 7enders around to use necks to make the P-birds and J-birds.drool (What is the deal with this emoji? Drool? Expelling Gatorade? Exorcist emoji?).

No - 3 reverse, 2 non-reverse, and a **XXXXXXX** JAGUAR bass

On the other hand my Epiphones Goth '58 Explorer and Goth '58 Flying V are pretty much identical in electronics, sound and weight.
They should be. They're made of the same stuff, I believe.

My V copy and explorer copy are made of very different materials. The explorer is some kind of light porous wood. Both have the same Duncan pickups and are wired, identically, VVTS.

Did they ever make an Epiphone non-reverse bird? It seems like it would be a hot item, if they did them in different colors.

Am I correct on my TB history that the good folks at 7ender once took Gibson to court over the NR Bird shape?

Epiphone did make a NR version in several colors but with P-J pickups. The white was originally a beat to $#!+ sunburst finished version that I had refinished.

And IIRC Fender sued Gibson over the Reverse shape. The NR came after which actually favored Fender styling much closer. See this link:

VERY cool trio!

Sorry @Stevis, I killed that last one because it was total blather. Wikipedia says Jazzmaster, although why they think the Reverse looked more like the Jazzmaster than the Non-Reverse is anyone's guess.

The Jaguar is quite a nice looking bass anyway.

Normal service is now resumed.
No worries, @kat888. It probably was a dumb question on my part. I agree with you on the Jag bass being cool. They do a bound neck with those nice pearloid block inlays on them too. To me, the problem is all those goofy "light switches," which don't seem very robust.

I saw the Smithereens on PBS' Infinity Hall a while back and their bass player had a red one with a matching red headstock. I would think seriously about one of those if they still made that particular model.
