HAPPY THANKSGIVING Y’all!!!

Prime Rib - should take me about 5 hours to get there!
Actually, we were planning on surf and turf today (Tomahawks and Alaskan King Crab) but our next door neighbor invited us over for dinner, so it’ll be turkey today. Hopefully the power holds out, strong Santa Anna winds today and a SoCal Edison power outage warning.

My EB-2 is also cherry. It is the two pickup model and has an adjustable bridge. Both came along in late '67 so far as I know. There was never a mud button on mine. It has a metal filler plug that I have seen on one other EB-2 listed as all original somewhere. Unlike that one, mine has a Model One instead of a mudbucker and the wiring is all butchered up. I never made any changes because it sounds way too good as-is.

And, like yours, it will never go on a plane. None of my instruments is likely to ever go on a plane.

I unhooked the choke on mine, it's the single pickup model. It freed up the stock mudbucker especially in the higher registers so the baritone switch does nothing, it's actually a de-mud button, takes all the bottom out. I really wanted the double pickup, (EB2-D?) when I went looking but they were about a grand more so I got the single pickup model, the paint is faded but the neck is beautiful, one the best necks I've ever played in fact. I've brought many basses in their hard shell cases on a plane and never had a problem but to bring that here I'll have to get a good case for it.

Gin should be pictured with the purple 'bird.

The Dead is certainly an acquired taste. You have to be in the proper state of mind to enjoy most of it. Much more laid back, drawn out and trippy than most people like. More of an experience than pure entertainment.
I get the laid back and trippy part…and the state of mind thing:whistle: It’s the pitchy singing that I can’t get past.

I grew up with P basses and Rics and it took me a long time to get used to Jazzes as it did Thunderbirds, if fact I'm still getting used to Thunderbirds. I know I sound like a broken record but I think they key for me for both was putting Roto Swing 66 SS's on them. I like the dirtiness of Rotos, I'm just an old rocker I guess. Those are like my home base for round wound strings, except for old Gibsons which I usually put La Bella DTF's on which are my home base for flats. By the way:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Edit: I promise to more diligently reread my posts to find my excessive typos.

Happy Thanksgiving as well!

Have you tried Dunlop nickel Super Brights on the Thunderbird by chance? I liked the Rotos 66 and tried a few more but man was I impressed even more by the Dunlop SB. Just asking because I’m a little new with basses and want to have some more insight.

No, I'm too set in my ways. It's not necessarily the brightness, it's the mid bite I like and the feel.

Think of the Grateful Dead as a Trippy version of the Allman Brothers Band. Long rambling free form jams that sometimes turn into a structured song, sometimes not, sometimes relaxing, sometimes frantic but always fitting for the drugs at hand. Prime example…

Now combine that with the perfect lock step high energy progressive rock style of the early Yes years (think Fragile album) and you have your band (at least on that one song). I love the style and the sound!

Good stuff. I often think a lot of bands get mentioned but GD seems to not get mentioned or clips posted here, which seems odd given the diverse likes in music. I've been neglect as well. A lot of their music is great to put on and just listen and relax.

Almost positive that those are just Power Wounds, which are nickel versions of Power Steel. The Fusion Wound are the RB. They just renamed then. Doing some rebranding I guess. It would make sense if they'd combine the Power Wound and Power Steel into just Power Wound Nickel and Stainless. The Power Steel packaging now looks out of place.
I'm not sure and admit to being confused. You may be right about them just being PWs. Though it seems odd to sell the same string under a different name. But that's how marketing works at times. There are the Fusion Wounds, then there is the Dave E. series in non-fusion and fusion. I just noticed they don't mention Dave E. SS, but I thought for sure I saw them listed at some point in the past. I may need to break down and just buy some Power Wounds to compare.

I love the Allman Brothers, the Dead were an acquired taste for me. I liked their hits during the 70's riding that train etc. but couldn't get into their albums and especially the live stuff I had heard. I've had SiriusXM since 2008 and there's a Dead channel so started gradually putting that on here and there and realized that there were times when they were actually very good live and even Phil sometimes played it straight but that he excelled in jazzy type material. I think this is the tune that made me realize that they were actually really good musicians and just like to jam whether they knew the tune or not  :

I've love the Allman Bros from the first time I heard them and can't think of a song that I don't like. I can't say that about any other band. The first time I heard the Dead it was intrigued by how different, and even funky sounding they were. Jerry's playing reminded me of a banjo playing (I like Bluegrass). Later I found out he started off playing banjo and even wanted to play in Bill Monroe's band. It then made sense why his playing reminded me of Banjo. I can listen to ABB all day. I can't say that about the Dead, but when I'm in the mood, I really enjoy it.

Please do! Science and all.

Also what makes me think of it is seeing the individual string model numbers, which are the same. I'm not sure what these signature sets are supposed to give you since they offer the same gauge sets in the regular Power Wound series. Same for the Eric Bass set and Power Steel.

I think I like the Dead more than you do, but I’ve never been a Deadhead. OTOH, I agree about ABB.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING Y’all!!!

I have been begging to do prime rib for Thanksgiving the last couple of years. Problem is we have several older family members that are too tied to the traditional meal. Not to mention that prime is so expensive now that its not realistic with this size family.

Hej
I was looking for a Epiphone thunderbird, and I came across 2 of them for same price, but they looks abit different.

1) First one has a serial that starts with 09 and assembled in Chine, and looks actually looks a bit redder than the photos of Epiphone thunderbird you find on shops. Based on research it looks like it was manifactured in 2009.

2) Second one does not have a serial number, on back but the color is more usual wood colour

Can someone with knowledge tell me what the difference is between the 2 other? Has the production improved/worsened since than etc?

Thanks
