Some here used the TC Electronic Spark Booster if I recall correctly. Has anyone tried the TC Electronic MojoMojo overdrive?
I'm again on a quest for a relatively low cost overdrive for bass and that has got some great reviews. I love the Bad Monkey but sometimes I feel it would work better in a "stereo" setup or in parallel. If I had it on all the time then I could of course make up for the slight low end loss.
Also, what about a Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive?

Thanks. The only old bass I have that hasn't had something done to it.

My '66 P is like that -

.......

I can’t wait to hear about that nano amp with a bass. I tried one with a guitar once and was impressed with the bang for the buck.

So far, I'm liking it really well.
Been mostly using with the 2x15 cab, through which my 5-string Ibanez sounds great. About half up/12:00 on the volume pushes that cab plenty loud for living room use. imo :)
Haven't tried any other basses with it, yet.
I'll get to them & my other cabs eventually ;)

I've not decided how I feel about the headphone output yet, it's a bit too...detailed? Clear? Not sure how to describe it. I can easily hear all the roundwound/fret clank/pick noises, and it's got a brightness? to it.
I'm going to try different headphones & basses with it before I make up my mind about it, I'm sure my passive basses, at least, will sound quite different through the headphones.

The only thing that's kind of annoying, is when it's turned on with a cab connected, it pops a bit through the speaker(s), even with volume all the way down.
Not terrible, but a bit louder than my pf350 that does the same thing.
Also happens with headphones, but that's just a very light pop.

Now I just need for my neighbors to go away for a bit, so I can see how loud it will get :D

That's like a chicken and egg situation. You want them away so you can see how loud it will get, but seeing how loud it will get would probably cause them to go away.

You'd think that, but around here they'd just bang on the wall & yell for me to "turn that thing down" :rollno:

Some people just have no appreciation for mediocre bass-playing :meh:

How low-cost are we talking? I have a Crazy Tube Circuits Planet B Plus that I think is excellent. They're made in Greece, if that means anything to you. You might also consider MXR's stuff.

Circa 50 euros, 100 tops. TC MojoMojo is in that price range and Spark Booster too. I'm not too crazy about MXR stuff, at least about their pedals for bass but I will check the Crazy Tube out.
And as I said, the Monkey sounds great and the SD compressor made it even better. That is the kind of overdrive sound I prefer. Hmmm, I think I should form a band where I could use that sound all the time.

I always love your tone. I think you should seriously consider the Boss pedal. You'd have no loss in low end.

Makes me wonder why some bass overdrive videos on youtube or elsewhere have the DI sound only? Unless you go for that Bob Mould "New Day Rising" harsh tone it rarely makes the pedal sound good. Just watched a clip of that Boss pedal and thankfully it had a cab sim engaged too.

Speaking of Husker Du, I noticed that their "Dead Set On Destruction" riff makes a quick appearance on this otherwise aimless noodling with the NR. The sound is at least good. SD compressor was again on and Bad Monkey too.

HUGE Husker Du fan here. I know you're talking about Bob's guitar tone, but I bet Greg Norton's signal chain was just P Bass to amp.

Yeah, and later an Ibanez Roadstar(s). His sound is almost too clean but somehow it fitted. Husker Du with a muscular sound would sound wrong. :D
Not too long ago I listened to a lot of 'Du. "Ice Cold Ice" and "Chartered Trips" are probably my fav songs penned by Bob. Grant did an equal amount of brilliant stuff.

Yeah, I love Chartered Trips. Bob often plays it solo. Funny about the muscular sound comment. I wonder if that's in part to do with the SST recordings. The WB ones are "fuller."

Well, WB albums aren't exactly heavy either. Hart's drums sound like paper at times. But I wouldn't change a thing.

Here's a clip from Finland 1987. I recall seeing an article in a Finnish mag about the band at that time and of course Greg's moustache stuck in my mind. I never heard their music until much later (I was 12 at the time).
