Thunderbird Club

Are you going to narrow the whole neck or just the heel? The heel width on my Jolana is similar to an Epiphone so I’m debating which way to go:
1) Route the body for the standard Fender 2.5” heel. This would allow me to put any Fender style neck on the body and use the neck on a different body if I want to change things up later.
2) Shave down / reshape the whole neck to fit the Jolana cavity. This is the most work, but I do like narrower necks. And the neck would be dedicated to the bass.
3) Route the sides of the heel to fit the body. This avoids routing the body or reshaping the whole neck.
Good questions to prompt some more thought:

1st, my end goal it to have a TSO I can/will play. I will not play a neck with a 12 radius so a Gibson or Greco out of the equation. However, I can mod a bolt on to accept a neck I can deal with.

2nd, the Eppi Goth is worth around $300, so if I mod it to accept a Fender neck, and still don't bond with it, it may still have value to someone?

3rd, the Warmoth wenge neck is also worth around $300. I will have the profile reshaped and it will still have value. If I have the heel shaved to fit an Eppi, it may or may not have value?

And finally if I get the Eppi and it is too heavy, I sell it

as always, interesting insight Andy…..begs the question, why CLs in particular?….

And he isn’t just like this at Christmas. This is the best club ever.

Thanks guys! Love being a part of this group!!

@Chucky Stiletti I think Craigslist started when it was easier to get people to fall for scams. I am surprised that the scammers still try so with CL since 98% of the people are aware of the scams. If @rolorocknerd told a CL seller that he would send payment and a local friend would pick up the bass (Or something along that line), its pretty close to the "I will send a money order and my agent will pick it up" scam that was so common on CL. That's why I recommend being very clear in the communication. Most scammers don't use good grammar or their phrasing is off.

My Christmas/B-day present to myself - I've done 4 rides on it so far. Fun! BMC is a Swiss company - my favorite bike (brand) as far as geometry/style and ride quality. It rocks! (no electronics involved... other than the cyclo-computer)

Awesome! These are really good basses! Original bridge as well! (mine was missing) When you get the chance, post pic's of the electronics - mine was altered and I returned it to what it was with help using the original specs. The neck on mine was/is exceptional - flamed maple! (and not bowed!) :bassist:

Merry Christmas y'all!

To Mona, a Douglas fir is only something to pee on...:)

She does not look amused, better sleep with an eye open tonight, lol.

If you’re going the four pup route you’ll only need to buy one tone pot. The original three pots in the Goth work well for the stock pickups.

So one new tone pot to match the existing one + two .022 tone caps (orange drop or ceramic work fine) + two 250K resistors + an electro socket side mount ring and output jack and knobs.

I can sketch up and post a wiring schematic tomorrow if you need it.

The stock pot values work very good. IIRC they are 500K audio taper volume pots (I’d need to open up my Goth to double check that, can do tomorrow if you want). The tone pots are also 500K IIRC. I don’t recall if they are Audio or Linear taper.

I very briefly tried 250K pots in the Goth and it was just way too muddy.
Thanks so much for your generous offer! However this mental exercise is only valid if the Eppi Goth is a keeper. If it is I'll reach out to you.

Is this vintage or RI? Either way, it looks like it needs some intonation work at the bridge!

I think he said it was a '72. You mean the bridge is too "maxed out"? After Fender moved the bridge pickup closer to the bridge in 1971 they also moved the bridge back a bit. The bridge was eventually moved back. I think Dagrev's bass has the moved bridge.
This 1971 Jazz definitely has:

Some here used the TC Electronic Spark Booster if I recall correctly. Has anyone tried the TC Electronic MojoMojo overdrive?
I'm again on a quest for a relatively low cost overdrive for bass and that has got some great reviews. I love the Bad Monkey but sometimes I feel it would work better in a "stereo" setup or in parallel. If I had it on all the time then I could of course make up for the slight low end loss.

they went through 20 pounds of masa last night….that would make about 500 tamales!….

Looks great Chucky! Merry Christmas!

Although they no doubt pale in comparison to Rosa’s, our tradition is getting them from La Moderna Bakery in Santa Fe Springs. Closest to authentic homemade we’ve found. And our son, who once worked in a Mexican restaurant in Flagstaff, makes great rice.

I'm aware of the long G intonation screw issue that appeared on '69-'73 Fenders basses, but I just wondered about the E, A & D saddles being in-line side-to-side compared to being slightly staggered like on yours.

What's the difference? Besides the name?
Jolana is a Czech company. Peavey’s (in the 80’s at least) were made in the USA.
The body shape is copied from a Gibson RD, but the pickups don’t appear to be direct copies of T40 pickups. The ones in the Jolana have 3 screws and are mounted directly in the pickguard. Peavey used 4 screws and a ring.
