Make sure you play at least one first. not only do they have a different tone, they have a different feel as well--and you will either love it or hate it.

What happens in Florida, sta... oh wait.., that wouldn't be true...
Strayed from the Thunderbirds for today's use. This is a fine sounding Pbass. Never used the J pickup today or played with a pick. Just sounded good with fingers and GHS Pressurewounds. But I am thinking of slapping some SIT Power Steels on to see what happens.

I didn't hate mine, in fact I liked it a lot in looks, tone and playing. Just didn't bond w/it.

I like Pressure-wounds... can't recall which bass they are on though...
I was a Fender player for years and Rics were very different for me when I first started playing them, I just kept playing them until they felt good, same with Thunderbirds. I've owned at least thirty Rics in my time, most were used and bought online and never had a real problem that I couldn't fix if one had one which wasn't usually the case. They're actually very versatile. They're not something you can just jump on and and feel right at home after playing Fenders, which is why so many people bash them, they don't take the time to get used to them, same thing with Gibsons I believe. I pick up my '79 4001 now and it feels like home to me and in some ways is the easiest playing bass I own. To me different style basses are like a relationship, you have to commit to them.

I used to collect them, I had some nice ones, one of mine ended up as the centerfold in Pauls Boyer's Rickenbacker bass book.

Thanks. It's really a beautiful bass. I get as many complements on it as anything. The "Sunset Orange" is really pretty in person. I've heard Orange is a color that turns off most people, but it sure looks good on this bass. (Brown or tan would be the worst colors for me.) Fender did such a nice job on this one you might think it's Custom Shop bass.Nice trans-orange P
