Thunderbird Club

Update on the string change:
I brought my NR with the new GHS Bass Boomers on it to practice on monday. They did sound better than the stock strings, but I'm still missing the full-on aggressive mid-thrust I'm used to from my P with the Curtis Novak PB-90 (that pickup is gold). It does sound great, but there is quite a bit of mid scoop and boomy lows going on, so it's not really cutting through. Yeah, I know, the bird is not a P at all, but after my pre-buy research, I felt assured it would be fuller sounding and more mid-forward than this. It's no disaster, not at all, but I did switch back to my P mid-practice and had much more fun.

So: is the pickup position the main problem, as was suggested earlier, or could I get closer to what I want with a more mid-focused pickup? I was thinking about reaching out to Curtis Novak to hear if he can make a pickup that sounds close to the PB-90, but in a TB housing. On the other hand, I'll gladly save the few hundred bucks and work with what I have if a pickup swap is futile.
Try Rotosound Roundwounds, that might help. Alternatively, Warwick roundwounds are cheaper and sound quite good too.

A younger Attila and his curiosity as to why it’s not a Thunderbird:

Gata likes Ricks too. One day she was pulling at the strings with her claws, it was really funny, I videoed it but couldn't figure out how to send it from my camera to my email. Here she's just relaxing after an extended practice session.

My little one yawns a lot too - I keep back a bit now, not out of fear of her teeth, her breath is frighteningly bad!

I took a drive to Bellevue, WA this AM and visited with Spencer Lull, ordered a pickup for my BaCH. They sometimes have them in stock at the shop, but not often as they usually are committed to basses in production, both 4 and 5 string versions are available.

Did you get a chance to ask about a pair for a VP?

They expect to have some back in about 45 days Dave, if you want a pair contact them directly by phone or email.
They're expensive, be aware a pair will cost you more than the bass did.

Rear tyres look pretty serious - could be a smokin' veener!
