You guys are too kind!
Just a quick update on the move, which was supposed to happen last summer, but got delayed by home improvement projects that were dragging behind schedule. The revised move plan from just a few months ago was to head to the South East coast (Hilton Head or Amelia Island) by the end of December 2022 when the last home upgrade was to be completed.

Just before we planned to list the house for sale my wife started experiencing abdominal pains. We immediately went to the doctor and after several tests it was confirmed she has an aggressive form of cancer on her liver, gall bladder and pancreas. She starts chemo next week. So needless to say we’ve put a lot of our move and financial plans on hold.

The blessing in disguise is that with all the delays on the move we by default have ended up in very close proximity to UCLA Medical and other top notch cancer doctors and treatment facilities. SoCal is the best place for us at this time. I suspect we’ll be here for at least the next 6 months, maybe longer.

Thoughts, prayers and well wishes are always welcome, but no need to derail this thread with that.

On a related Thunderbird note, I will be trying to get my wife to help me with my current Tbird build (finish selections, pickguard designs, etc.) anything to keep her busy and her mind off of other issues.

Went through a similar thing in 2019, thoughts and prayers out to the Ms and you.

Hugs,
Mike.

A bit of explanation: Many, MANY mango seasons ago. I asked Gibson what year my serial #(519096) woulda been from. 1965 was one option/guess they came up with. It was represented to me as a '67 when I bought it in '73. Who knew from serial numbers(or setups/strings/other [stuff] back then)?
Hum.... That serial number of from a 1972 Hondo CopyBird. Since you like the new Epi, I'll give a $100 more than you paid for the Hondobird, plus shipping. :smug:

George and I were discussing these strings back and forth on a PM. I put them in a cart for $19.99. After a couple of days I removed them. when I went back in Amazon offered them for $15 and small change. Free shipping.
There are wise people hanging out here.
Interesting. Never had anything from Amazon make an offer. Reverb does it all the time, but never had that with Amazon.

No liking that, George. Definite will be praying for her. Do keep us updated. She's family too!

Ported Cab Vs. Sealed Cab ? Pros Cons and preferences ?

I like both, ported are usually louder, everything else being equal, sealed are a little tighter everything else being equal. Sealed actually drop off slower than most ported cabs but most ported cabs can be tuned to go very low and seem to more evenly disperse throughout the room, sealed seem to have more punch and the more internal volume they have the lower they can go.

There's a cat that looks just like that roaming in the woods. I keep trying to get it to come to me in case it needs a home or is lost. Never had a cat, but don't want it to be lost. Might be feral, who knows.
These are a couple of ferocious ferals we let come in during an ice storm.

Between UCLA, Keck Medical Center (USC), and City of Hope, SoCal is one of the best places in the world to be while battling cancer. As I told her last Saturday, we’re praying daily. Your wife is a special person.

Ported Cab Vs. Sealed Cab ? Pros Cons and preferences ?
My SVT VR with the sealed Berg NV610 is amazing. My Mesa TT800 with the ported Mesa Subway 410 is amazing. They are at different houses so I have not AB’d them. I’m hoping to do that soon and will post here.

It all comes down to player preferences and the amps. There is no right or wrong. It’s what you like. Experiment.

One thing I understand is that it may not be best to use sealed and ported cabs together with the same amp. I’ll try it when I can and report.

I’m really curious to pair the SVT VR with the ported 410 Subway cab and the sealed Berg NV610 with the TT800. I expect those pairings will be different, but sound great.

Variety is the spice of life. I’m fortunate to have great options.

The Lollars are going to sound fuller than the VP's 760s, just more going on especially in the lo-mids. The neck on the VP is noticibly bigger than a '90s Gibson as well, not objectionable, but not the same by any stretch.
Looking for another Bird, I'd suggest a Greco II or an Orville.

Well, I’m not above swapping pickups to get the sound I want for a good feeling good looking bass! Only one of my 25 basses has stock pickups, my 2019 Matte Black Ric, and I have a CA neck pickup for it, just not installed.
