Thunderbird Club

You guys are too kind!
Just a quick update on the move, which was supposed to happen last summer, but got delayed by home improvement projects that were dragging behind schedule. The revised move plan from just a few months ago was to head to the South East coast (Hilton Head or Amelia Island) by the end of December 2022 when the last home upgrade was to be completed.

Just before we planned to list the house for sale my wife started experiencing abdominal pains. We immediately went to the doctor and after several tests it was confirmed she has an aggressive form of cancer on her liver, gall bladder and pancreas. She starts chemo next week. So needless to say we’ve put a lot of our move and financial plans on hold.

The blessing in disguise is that with all the delays on the move we by default have ended up in very close proximity to UCLA Medical and other top notch cancer doctors and treatment facilities. SoCal is the best place for us at this time. I suspect we’ll be here for at least the next 6 months, maybe longer.

Thoughts, prayers and well wishes are always welcome, but no need to derail this thread with that.

On a related Thunderbird note, I will be trying to get my wife to help me with my current Tbird build (finish selections, pickguard designs, etc.) anything to keep her busy and her mind off of other issues.

Sending my prayers for you and your wife.

My Gata has been with us for almost 16 years now, that's more than 20% of my life, that kind of puts things in perspective.

We had to have a kitty put down in 2004 that we had as a kitten since 1984. A very long time. Very painful. She lived a long happy life with a lot of love. I still miss her. Enjoy every minute you have.

Oh, man. Please try and get a recording from that beast. I'm playing through the house GK Backline 210 combo at tonight's gig.
Will you be using your GK 800 pedal or going straight? Let us know. I’m on the fence about what to get preamp wise to add to the wonderful Mesa TT800. The thought of adding another preamp to that two channels of tone the TT has is intriguing. Three legit amps in one. We are playing in great times.

Went through a similar thing in 2019, thoughts and prayers out to the Ms and you.
Hugs,
Mike.
No liking that, George. Definite will be praying for her. Do keep us updated. She's family too!
Prayers to you and her.
Between UCLA, Keck Medical Center (USC), and City of Hope, SoCal is one of the best places in the world to be while battling cancer. As I told her last Saturday, we’re praying daily. Your wife is a special person.
Sending my prayers for you and your wife.

Thanks for all the well wishes, prayers and positive thoughts. My wife has never been sick a day in her life, so this is all pretty much a shock for us, but because she’s in other wise excellent health her odds of pulling through are even better. Again, thanks for all the kind words and good karma.

For those of you that would like to see a picture vs read dimensions, here’s my NR build with the pup routs in and how they compare to the new ‘21 NR and a vintage 60’s NR. Basically I’ll have a 60’s neck pup location and a ‘21 bridge pup location….

Most likely the 800RB pre into the FX Return.

Looks good. The closer route to the neck should be great.

Oh. Them guys. Try "All You Ever Do is Bring Me Down". We do that one with a sub guitarist-had no clue who did it. And so much for 3 chord R&R. Two will do.
Easy, danceable stuff. Hell, in the right key(s), I might be able to play 'treble' on their tunes.(my guitar knowledge can be described as "I gots E and A and I'm workin' on D.")

that looks like them. Thanks. I’m working on fixing my strumming, adding new patterns. Teach thinks these guys are good for that cos I like the music so far and only a couple of easy chords so I can concentrate more on the strum pattern less on ‘how does that weird chord go again?’.

I now know a handful of open chords on guitar and the same on uke but am moving into barring and movable shapes on the uke.

My guitar work is like my family tree, totally peasant stock. :D
‘Nuthin fancy’

Nice "red" one in JP. A little too far to drive. N/A(obviously) Besides, I don't like my basses "sparking".Gibson Non Reverse Thunderbird Sparking Burgandy 3.86kg 287331 | eBay

I reckon Sparkling Burgundy is ‘my colour’. Loving it. Funny that they started using it as a coverup paint job covering other not up to scratch work.

My SVT VR with the sealed Berg NV610 is amazing. My Mesa TT800 with the ported Mesa Subway 410 is amazing. They are at different houses so I have not AB’d them. I’m hoping to do that soon and will post here.

It all comes down to player preferences and the amps. There is no right or wrong. It’s what you like. Experiment.

One thing I understand is that it may not be best to use sealed and ported cabs together with the same amp. I’ll try it when I can and report.

I’m really curious to pair the SVT VR with the ported 410 Subway cab and the sealed Berg NV610 with the TT800. I expect those pairings will be different, but sound great.

Variety is the spice of life. I’m fortunate to have great options.
I put a 210AV on top of my ported 1x15 once and can confirm that they did not sound good together.

Ported Cab Vs. Sealed Cab ? Pros Cons and preferences ?

Not sure if there’s any truth to this but I’m finding, with my tube amps anyway, less power, porting is better (PF20/50, V4B), but if you have sealed cabs, the more power you can shove into them the better and fuller they sound. SVT810e being sealed and some old Ampeg cabs I had (a B40, sealed 4x10) sound better with more power. The PF50T I have I use with a PF115LF, which is ported, and that’s the biggest 50w amp sound I’ve ever heard.
