Broken.jpg

A mate of mine got in touch with me on repairing some silent witnesses of somebody during a psychosis which led to the destruction of his guitars.

Yeah. They were pretty much damaged beyond repair. But I asked if I could have the neck of the 12 string.

Which was in good condition

Now, a while ago, I owned THIS.
Red.jpg

A Horribly chopped up super strat which I eventually sold.

But I liked that body shape, it reminds me of a Bouzouki. So I made a routing template and used that to make a body "for future use"

Today, I have been working on grafting that neck on to that body I still had lying around.

So what am I going to do with this?

Rickenbacker toaster pickup copies, I was looking for a reason to use those, and here it is.

Is this The Mavericks you are referring to? I saw them at an outdoor show in Austin back when this song was new. They were quite good from what I remember.

I may steal that song for the prospective country project I hope to put together as a place to play upright. Unless we never find a drummer, then I will do that and a friend will play electric bass. The Kaleidescape is endless.

The Lollars are going to sound fuller than the VP's 760s, just more going on especially in the lo-mids. The neck on the VP is noticibly bigger than a '90s Gibson as well, not objectionable, but not the same by any stretch.
Looking for another Bird, I'd suggest a Greco II or an Orville.
Lollars are pretty nice. Thunderbuckers are pretty nice. 760s are ok. I am absolutely taken by Lulls. Expensive, but worth it.

Ported Cab Vs. Sealed Cab ? Pros Cons and preferences ?

My preference lies with ported cabs. My swr goliath ii is rear ported & by god the lows are powerful while the 410s are crisp. Sealed cabs are decent, but i feel like im missing a lot & dependingon the amp sometimes find difficult to get the tone im after.

Ported for bigness, even though my bass tone is mids maxed out.

Not sure if there’s any truth to this but I’m finding, with my tube amps anyway, less power, porting is better (PF20/50, V4B), but if you have sealed cabs, the more power you can shove into them the better and fuller they sound. SVT810e being sealed and some old Ampeg cabs I had (a B40, sealed 4x10) sound better with more power. The PF50T I have I use with a PF115LF, which is ported, and that’s the biggest 50w amp sound I’ve ever heard.
I am a fan of folded horns. Just to mudy the waters a bit more. But what you say makes sense. And as a bit more to think about, for bass, the ports should be in the front, not open back like a guitar cabinet.

My little Carvin amp is sealed and sounds great with a sealed extension cabinet. It is 250 watts and does fine for most situations. Bigger sound comes from an ACC 360 stack. The original 1968 sounds enormous, but only has 200 watts. The Grexa reissue has 450 watts and is more hifi, but also sounds enormous. I would put either up against an Ampeg fridge. They make a fridge sound burnt, flat, and an unfortunate brown. They sound big and juicy, with lots of black, teal, and electric blue.

I love that Mavericks tune, can't quite explain why either - stupid on the bass yet it's in my Youtube rotation and I never fail to chum along with it.

So. Is there anything you’re not good at? The more things you post, the more impressed I am. Your music. Your build skills. First rate.
