I grew up eating White Castles. Say what you will, I like 'em. In 'n' Out is just another fast food joint to me. My son and daughter in law always demand a stop on the way home when they come to visit. It's a Seattle thing.

Ah yes, a Bag of Dicks.

There's one near my house, it's good! Frank and I go, but not too often as I don't eat much fast food anymore :woot:

I lived in Chicago for 10yrs and only ate White Castle mini-burgers once to appease my bike-racer friend Doug, who was born/raised in Chicago. I found it novel at best, but I think you had to grow-up with it as a teen to 'do it' correctly. As in, late on a Friday or Saturday night after clubbing - ordering a dozen and eating all of them! Glad to only hear about that.

And stack the empty cartons on your dashboard...

I miss all the old drive-in burger places. In upstate NY, Lake Placid to be exact - there was a small one called "Custer, Mustard and Brew". "Big Boy" in Cincinnati, Superdawg in Chicago vacinity and of course A&W Root Beer Drive-Ins. As long as they have big icon/sculptures - I'm there!

Circa 0:30:

I agree also about the technique, strings, amps etc. Squire made basically every bass sound like his Ric, for example his Telecaster on "South Side Of The Sky" or "A Venture".

Most good bassists get the same sound out of different basses. Great sound. Just as an aside, I used to have Jim Mouradian work on my basses. Very nice guy and good bass player.

Growing up in SoCal I remember Bob’s Big Boy. Later moving to Colorado I think it was called Azar’s Big Boy, then when I moved to Cincinnati it was Frisch’s Big Boy. IIRC, when I was driving from Cincinnati to Miami I stopped at a Shoney’s Big Boy. And in Michigan where my wife lived it was called Elias Brothers’ Big Boy. All good eats for a fast food burger, although I much prefer a homemade gourmet burger. I avoid McDonalds, Burger King, Jack in the Box and Wendy’s like the plague but maybe once or twice a year I will hit In-n-Out or Carl’s Junior for a quick burger bite. I don’t consider White Castles skillet scabs actual burgers, they’re more of a binge drinking accessory.

We don’t have burgers often but when we do, I make a mean 1/2 pounder packed with blue cheese inside the patty and served with American cheese, bacon and fried egg on top inside a Brioche or Sourdough bun.

And they called mine a cholesterol bomb :rollno:

This is painfully true.

Interesting video but I think it's been obvious for years that close micing is the way to go as you lose both immediacy and clarity as you move a mic back from a cab. I also think that if he had had that 100 watt Marshall in a room the sound pressure coming out of the speakers would have impacted the strings, I don't believe recording music is as black and white as he seems to have arrived at.

My personal takeaway is how I never get the same tone here as I got there. My goal is always "good enough."
