Thunderbird Club

Posted this in the Gibson club yesterday, but since it has Tbird content I’ll post here as well.

Gibson Club member #280 checking in. Been a while since I posted my Gibson pics is this club, I’ve mainly been focused on Thunderbirds for the last several years. Anyway, here’s a shot of the Gibby family as it stands today…

Every last one of them is a fantastic player and each brings something different to the mix. I’ll probably put the 2013 EB 5 string up for sale soon. I dread selling the EB, it’s one of the best and most versatile players of the bunch, but my arthritis has progressed to the point that 5 string basses are getting pretty uncomfortable to play. Hopefully it’ll find a good home.

ex GF there….got offended when someone called it Seattle….. too snotty?…

Bellevue is way too snotty - devoid of any real culture, where not to go when you come to visit Seattle.

Growing up in SoCal I remember Bob’s Big Boy. Later moving to Colorado I think it was called Azar’s Big Boy, then when I moved to Cincinnati it was Frisch’s Big Boy. IIRC, when I was driving from Cincinnati to Miami I stopped at a Shoney’s Big Boy. And in Michigan where my wife lived it was called Elias Brothers’ Big Boy. All good eats for a fast food burger, although I much prefer a homemade gourmet burger. I avoid McDonalds, Burger King, Jack in the Box and Wendy’s like the plague but maybe once or twice a year I will hit In-n-Out or Carl’s Junior for a quick burger bite. I don’t consider White Castles skillet scabs actual burgers, they’re more of a binge drinking accessory.

We don’t have burgers often but when we do, I make a mean 1/2 pounder packed with blue cheese inside the patty and served with American cheese, bacon and fried egg on top inside a Brioche or Sourdough bun.

We had a Bob's Big Boy in Worcester, Mass. The first McDonald's in the area was also in Worcester, it was tiny, you could buy a coke, french fries and a hamburger for a buck.

Ok poison squirrels - here's that Sat night Winters' Tavern/Bond Girl live-stream I mentioned. 3hrs+ long (!), so basically an evening in Pacifica! I love having this document as the opening scene is driving down the chicane into Pacifica to view the sunset. That very scene got me to want to live there many years ago. You can scroll through as much as you want - our full show (warts & all) starts at 49:27 and goes to 1:40:03. Aside from mangling my bass break :bag: on "History Repeating" and hitting a brown note at the end of "Never There" (note to self - always play the correct 1st & last note...) I did ok! :) Luckily for me - the camera-man was facing my amp so my bass comes through loud & clear. (headphone help) Also cool cause' I can watch/hear the other bands!

It was fun watching our friends arrive and you can see how windy it was as the heavy front doors kept blowing open. My Beth carrying Mona came in at 1:04:38 (note NO DOGS ALLOWED INDOORS on the front door! :)) and they became live-stream celebrities at 1:07:37! Mona noticed my mistakes and suggested I clean up my act... :bassist:

Tracked some drums today at my friend's studio. The drummer played to a click track and nailed the first song at take two (the first take was almost as perfect). The other song was rather complex with 5/4 and 11/8 parts plus one 7 among the fives. I hadn't ever heard the part he created to it but I trusted him and it was good. Again two takes because in the first one the overhead mic wasn't working...
Did I mention he has a well-tuned kit and the drum sound was basically done at the same time when the mics were checked?

A teaser:

"Bird in a case" Monday.

We had a Shoney's Big Boy in Kingsport in 70's & 80's - I think it may have closed in the 90's? Nobody referred to the "Big Boy" part though, it was just called "Shoney's", and it was definitely not a fast food place.
More of a sit-down restaurant with waitresses & such.....like a Black Bear, I guess.

It was the "fancy" restaurant for the not-rich people, I ate there maybe 4-5 times total growing up....:meh:
