Its an Epiphone manufactured 12/21 that I picked up used from GC. I realized when I got it why the price was marked down so much. The original bridge had been swapped and the truss rod cover was missing. I've ordered some generic replacements from ebay. I like the way the black stock bridge looks better than the chrome on this bass.

Many of us like chrome two piece bridges, so you can likely sell it to someone here. (I'd be interested)
And there are likely some black 3 point bridges sitting in member's parts drawers.
Is the intonation ok? Usually you can't replace a stock Epiphone/Gibson 3 point bridge with a tunematic style 2 point without moving the mounting posts.
When you get a chance, please post some higher resolution pics.

Welcome! You came to the right place for lots of thunderbird love and action. Our Queen should be by sometime soon to offer you a club number and officially welcome you to the best bass club on TalkBass.

Im sure the bridge selection on your Tbird will spark some curiosity, many of us here are very fond of that two piece bridge style vs the stock three point bridge. I can’t say I’ve ever seen an Epiphone IV modded with that bridge without having to reposition the body studs for intonation purposes.

Except for all that awful echo you get in an arena. I've not played many but you prayed it sounded better in the house than it did onstage .

When I was in the army, everything had to be done in triplicate. One for the inbox, one for the outbox, and one to destroy so that the Russians don't get it.


My friday afternoon routine at the medical equipment depot was to go to a department to learn what they do. Step by step. When I didn't understand why something was done the way it was, I asked why. Everyone quickly figured out was that there was a wrong answer "because that's how we have always done it". I re-engineered a few business processes that way.

"Because that's how we've always done it." Similar in the USN, at least during my time(64-68).

What's the bridge on your 'Bird? That's pretty unique.

But posting before reading is much more entertaining.

My time in the nuclear Navy (98-2015) was VERY different. By the book, so much that actually using the book was just a formality. We dreamt of those procedures...yet when/if there was room to improve, it was generally encouraged.

Thanks TBird1958! Glad to be part of the club! I didnt realize the mod on my bass would cause such a stir. I'm trying to figure it out too. I dont understand why you would mod a practically new bass. But everyone has different taste. I'll get some better pics and post them later. Hopefully someone can tell me what I have and help me change it back to original or at least black hardware. I like the all black hardware look better.
