Just went down a Bond rabbit hole on YouTube. Watched the very first Bond movie ever made from 1954 (Casino Royale) and had popcorn and Bond correct martinis (Three parts Gin, one part vodka, 1/2 part dry vermouth, shaken not stirred with a lemon twist). I’m not really a Martini guy, but these were actually pretty good. Watched the movie from YouTube on the big screen and then watched all the Money Penney scenes through out the series and then all the Q scenes through out the series. Fun night, entertaining and informative, and just what the wife needed to take her mind off other things.
For those interested the correct martini mix is
3 parts Gin (Beefeaters is a good match for the original 1950’s recipe which called for Gordon’s)
1 part Vodka (any top shelf will do, I used Grey Goose)
1/2 part dry vermouth (Cocchi Americana is the right type to use, lots of citrus flavor and bitters)
Shaken in a tumbler with ice and poured in a chilled martini glass with a twist of lemon
Makes a pretty strong martini!
Goes nice with salty or spicy food or bar snacks, parano or manchego cheese, or Asian pears wrapped in prosciutto.
The perfect pairing for any Bond night.
