Thunderbird Club

Suspended Animation.

One good intro to Sonic Youth would be a concert like this one: .
The intro and outro are reminiscent of Metal Machine Music. :)

Kim played a Thunderbird off and on (in studio and live) throughout her time with the band, and Jim O'Rourke played her bird as well, as he sometimes does here.

I was going to mention Metal Machine Music in reference to one of their tunes I heard today.

Proof, if you needed it, that Peavy amps are indestructible.

I’m starting to get excited! You, Frank, Chucky, Rosa, Geo, Dave, and of course, my buddy Jeff. And whoever else can make it. @KaraQ? We need to double the turnout this rear. Anyone who is available that weekend really needs to make plans to attend. @Gaolee, @Nocturnal @Border, @Ringhammer @Pontiac Thrasher and anyone in Cali, Oregon. Washington, Nevada, Arizona, or anywhere else, I guarantee it will be a highlight of your year. Unless, of course if you get married or have a baby).
I'm not going to be able to make it down, but sending a bass or two is likely, provided Veronica has room. Worst case, it would be a good excuse to visit and drink with Veronica and Frank.

I think next year's will be in Seattle.......:woot:

So where in SoCal Rumble? @GBassNorth and I meet, and need to plan a day this summer. Perhaps you can join?
Killer, thanks for the invite! I appreciate it.

It turned out though that I married a mountain girl and so I moved back to Kentucky. We live in Pikeville. Country artist Dwight Yoakim was born in our area/county. Bluegrass extraordinaire Dr. Ralph Stanley is from about 40 miles from here in Clintwood, Virginia. Still yet, I like to Rock out with the Thunderbird!

My attendance is questionable, unfortunately. Just helped our daughter move cross-country and that ate a good chunk of my PTO for the year. Might still be able to make it happen tho.

Oh agreed. I like Sonic Youth - I think I have all their albums and saw them open up for REM once.
I've heard their influence in a lot of later music.

We had tickets to see REM with Sonic Youth opening (Never had the chance to see SY before that) and then Bill Berry had his aneurism, which put the tour on hold. When the tour resumed someone else opened (I don't remember who opened, maybe Lucious Jackson) and I didn't get to see Sonic Youth. I was already over REM at that point in their career and then they played NOTHING from the first few albums, which was all I really cared for so I totally wrote them off after that.

Anyhow.....Sonic Youth:

I play some mainstream country (Allen Jackson type stuff) and the Tbird fits in very nicely. Visually it might raise some eyebrows in a bluegrass setting but once they hear it they’ll like it.

Never been to Pikeville, used to hit Hazard every now and then, not too far from you. Back in the late 1970’s I was living in San Jose CA and met my first wife who was a mountain girl from KY. She got homesick so we moved back to Northern KY and I went to work in Cincinnati, stayed there until I retired. The wife and I split up a couple of years after moving there. Maybe some truth to the old saying - Kentucky, the land of beautiful horses and fast women. LOL

You do realize you’ll have to be my bodyguard if @Ringhammer comes to the GTG.

Funny, I have people coming in the next couple days to (hopefully) buy a couple things, and as soon as I would have had the cash in Hand I would have gone out and got it.

A brand new Black VP (or 60’s as they are called now, right?) may be a good substitute, I love my white one.

There will be one or two black VPs at the GTG.

well, you did say “a” highlight, not “the” highlight!

My apologies if there are already a lot of photos of Nikki Monninger of Silversun Pickups playing a Gibson Thunderbird bass. I love this band so much!
Never too many photos of Nikki! Just watch out for Marshall. He’ll share basses and amps, but doesn’t like sharing Nikki. Not that anyone blames him.

I’m getting closer to a maybe for the GTG. We have a conflict that weekend but the wife is looking at options to clear the schedule.
