Woot! Snow day for me, that means I get to play the bass and work on model trains.

Aside from the cat eyeballing me as a possible source of food, it should be a good day, my adult childhood continues.
Too many people know I learned to drive in Ohio. They expect me to show up despite snow. Dammit!

I'm all alone and snowed in with this dangerous animal today, if I were to fall asleep I know she'd attack and try to use me as a source of food!

It doesn't really snow here all that often (esp. compared to a lot of you guys!) so it's kind of fun, guess I have about 2-3 inches and I just don't feel like making the 22 mile trip to work just now - if it quits I may go in for a half day.

Cute kitty! :)

1981 called, and wants its cliche "rush are great musicians but I can't stand the vocals" back.

If you are going to criticize rush, you have to pick another reason, the geddys voice thing is sooooool overplayed. We were sick of hearing it over and over again from the naysayers back in 1991. It is 2017 now.

Besides, geddy hasn't sang crazy high like that in decades, for those paying attention. Unfortunately, even many rush fans stopped paying attention after the mid 80s synth period.
Only listening to them now. My mate has been a big fan since the 70s so I thought I'd take a dip. Found it a bit annoying but I'll probably have another go sometime. Maybe it was a bad example I tried.

Ok, I'll bite.
I listen to just about every type of music there is and from a bass standpoint I play (or maybe attempt to play would be more accurate) just about every type of music there is. So I consider myself fairly open minded music wise with obvious likes and dislikes of course. So as an open minded individual what Rush album would be the one to own if I wanted one that faithfully represents the pinnacle of the bands career?

And there you go...

I did actually like Signals. I think it's their best record.

I have enjoyed Rush for the mechanics of what they do, and they're good at it often enough that I give them their due. But I genuinely like Signals. I think mostly it's the songwriting.

Toss up between 3; R40, Clockwork Angels, or Snakes and Arrows. R40 gives the modern perspective on their whole history, and because it is live, you can hear just how much music 3 guys can produce. The other two are the most recent and so represent the state of the band and have no screeching vocals.

Cool is just so subjective. Rics look the least cool to me of the major manufacturers. They look better in the hands of a British Invasion Era rock bassist than they do with a guy like Cliff Burton(RIP) or Lemmy(RIP). Puffy-shirted Brits and Rics... that's why I'd never own one.

(RANT ON)You and me, both! I have friends that think Geddy is a God and that Rush is the greatest rock band that ever graced us mere mortals with their music. I look at them(my friends not the band) incredulously and with a certain curiosity. Not enough for me to engage in a discussion or enough for me to give Rush another shot at me "getting use" to their sound because believe me, I've tried. Since hearing Tom Sawyer for the first time in 81-82(?) and wanting to hear more, only to be so utterly disappointed with everything else on Moving Pictures... and everything else they've put out since then. I literally cannot switch to another channel fast enough when they come on the radio. (RANT OFF)

DUDE! Are you sure you're American?!?! Rush Rocks!

But you are entitled to you opinion...

Kitty is too smart to eat you first. He/she will first get you to let down your guard by giving you the impression that she loves you dearly, while curling up on/near you. Of course, this is merely to take your body heat. This cycle will continue until the food bowl is empty THEN he/she will eat you!:)

But they are Canadian, no? By logical extension, this would mean that I need to go out and buy Gordon Lightfoot (and Anvil) CDs.;)

I did go through a brief Rush period as a teen. I recall a big owl on the cover of one album (Fly By Night?). My interest in prog rock was short-lived, after I discovered punk.

Yes they are Canadian, from the Toronto area to be almost exact.

I too went through a period if not liking Ged's voice, and even pull the tape out of everysingle cassette I owned once but that was because a rDio DJ announced they refused to play in Alaska(they were returning to Canada from Japan, a stop was mandatory for fuel). I didn't listen to them for ten years. In the end it was the lyrics and precision that brought me back to the fowl.

+1

R40 (or R30 even) will give you a good retrospective of the bands work without a lot of the more piercing high vocals that seem to put off the haters.
