Thunderbird Club

very quietly...in his room...very far away from anywhere I am

Back in the day same body, bass and guitar. Strap button on heel as most Gibsons were in that era.

Upsizing body would help, probably close to Grabber/Ripper size...

This is NOT my first rodeo :)

That makes my pulse race!
I have always wanted a Ripper but only two left handed instruments were ever made.

Only listening to them now. My mate has been a big fan since the 70s so I thought I'd take a dip. Found it a bit annoying but I'll probably have another go sometime. Maybe it was a bad example I tried.

Well the screeching vocals persisted for quite a while, but beginning with permanent waves in 79 (Jan 1980 release), the screeching vocals began to subside.

Ok, I'll bite.
I listen to just about every type of music there is and from a bass standpoint I play (or maybe attempt to play would be more accurate) just about every type of music there is. So I consider myself fairly open minded music wise with obvious likes and dislikes of course. So as an open minded individual what Rush album would be the one to own if I wanted one that faithfully represents the pinnacle of the bands career?

Pinnacle of rush career is 1976-2016 when Neil announced his retirement from touring. It is not a question I can answer, but of it had to be one album it would need to be a live album, and clock work angels tour or R40 live would be the ones to get. I don't own either one and haven't listened to them yet, but I saw each tour twice.

Geddy played a Thunderbird and an NR on a few songs on R40, it was the only tour where he played a million basses, he outdid Alex on number of bass changes, nearly every song a different bass. Very un-geddy.

Get the DVDs and watch the show rather than just listening is what I would recommend.

But if you don't like rush, you don't like rush.

"As for me, I celebrate their entire catalog"
"I told those cock smokers I liked michael Bolton!"

'Politics' being banned here, I will keep my trap firmly shut.

So as I was saying .... how about that Muscle Shoals sound eh?
Politics may not be encouraged but a conversation about what we like/don't like is fine. As ling as Niether of us start attacking or get personal all should be well. I know I can handle myself appropriately. Up to you either way.

Since we're being brutally honest... I don't give a rat's butt bow about Rush, Jaco, OR jazz...
It is all subjective, right? Maybe with the exception of Donnie and Marie? Personally, I don't "get" the appeal of bands like the Grateful Dead or Phish. But they are good musicians. I don't "get" Sonic Youth. But they were innovative and pushed musical boundaries. Rush are talented musicians too. However, some of us would rather listen to Dead Kennedys, the Damned or Ramones, where one could possibly question musicianship (which was part of their artistic statement). Their lyrics were arguably not as imaginative as Rush but that's not what drew/draws us to them either. Who among us couldn't appreciate the poetic verse of the DK's Jello Biafra, as he sings: "Too Drunk to F*@k"?

Sincerely yours,
Captain Obvious

...nah Lee is definitely not there.

Once you have finished biting Carlo, you can bite me.
:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

I'm not much of a Rush fan, either. I can appreciate their technical skill, but somehow, all that technique drained the joy out of it. For me anyway.

"A bit annoying" <--- understatement.

"but I'll probably have another go sometime." <--- I've walked this path a few times thinking that my taste may have changed.

DUDE! Are you sure you're American?!?! Rush Rocks!

But you are entitled to you opinion...

Flag waving, bacon eating, rock n rollin' son of a gun! :D

Listen to the words Neil wrote. Maybe that'll help.

Not a chance! ;)

My bruth-ah from anoth-ah muth-ah!

Hey. (Rush content again) They were young and full of their own piss, and when it looked hopeless, they got a chance. Screech they did, and with great gusto. Good for them.

Farewell to Kings still makes me shrink, sometimed chuckle just a little. Esp youngest- she likes to giggle at the title track.
I LOVE farewell, might just be my fav Rush album. But it did not fare wellnin the market place. Thats pretty normal for me though.

I also tore up some Frank Zappa, not one single person I grew up with like him either. Stange indeed.

That works. Music to get bruised by!

Fact is that I really like jazz. I also like the raw, unbridled and often untalented energy that was punk rock.
Love me some T. Monk. My fav jazz tunage.

Far as punk-ethos bands, Flea was in Fear early on, and some of the dudes in The Dead Kennedys were "jazz players"... and they were good. X was another booty-kickin', bunch of very skilled dudes.

Punk tends to get a bad rap. Admittedly though, yeah, there were a good number of ramshackle outfits...

But for the true-blue guy of rock n' roll: The Ramones.

Sorry, had to edit many typos.
