Thunderbird Club

Happy first full day of summer and it’s Thunderbird Thursday, as well! View attachment 5102333View attachment 5102334

great point you bring up….it’s easy to tell someone to F Off when they tell you to play a Fender (or something more trad than a reverse for example) but when it’s the BL and he/she’s cutting your checks…..
It's never come up, but if it did I would say "OK, I'm comfortable playing this bass, but if you wanna buy me a FSO-and take a chance on me screwing up on an unfamiliar bass-go for it".

They are somewhat more ergonomic, but I think because the shape is a bit more 'traditional'(?), B/Ls are less likely to have a problem with them-at least in my case. I don't think any big band leader I've ever worked for had the slightest clue that I was playing my 67 NR TBird, especially being a more traditional(?) color.
I do still occasionally kick myself in the arse for not also grabbing the blue NR that was next to it at Rudy's. I had the $$, just didn't feel a need for two(it was 1973.Who knew it'd be collectible?)
Also, who knew some little 'crotch goblin' would knock the 67NR over and crack the headstock?

I don’t recall the source. But the gist of the article I read some months ago was that the online sales during the pandemic gave them a reprieve and that they would likely be gone by now. They’re only hope now is paying kids minimum wage to give lessons. Have you been in one lately and seen all the junk on the walls?
No, I haven't. So I don't know what shape they are visibly in.

Saw a new source for Thunderbird style/shaped pickups. Prices aren't bad either.

LeCompte Electric Bass - Four String Pickups

Some cool magnet configurations - with all those options it would be helpful/enlightening to have a youtube vid hearing them. Boasting (in the ad copy) about how 3-poles per string is bigger/bassier/better is a bit like "turning up to 11..." I'd like to hear that difference before I'd buy into it.

There is no way they are running comps on those as VPs. They’re calling them and pricing them like IVs. They do not have a clue.
And therein lies the problem, GC is mistakenly comping them as IVs. Most likely because it looks identical to the last one they sold at that price.

Does a Dingwall D-Bird count for Thunderbird Thursday?

It sure does, and I’ll join you…
