Thunderbird Club

Good day everybody.
I'm not sure if this thread is the right one but I think there are experts here who probably can help me.
I have a Jazz Bass pickup (1977) which after a long break from playing is just dead. After I removed it and measured it, it was clear that it had zero resistance. I checked the solder joints and didn't find anything out of the ordinary. The wires of the coils arrive at the soldering points, but courious there are two wires at one soldering point??? The pickup was never rewound. The pickup was working a long time ago and since then no alterations have been made to it.
Anyone have any ideas on this or how a pickup can just die?

Hah! Never heard of those bands! When I was teaching grad-level art, getting my students 'likes' of current music they were listening to was bonus. Kept me more 'up-to-date' and also confirmed that good music is always being made - just have to know who to listen to!
Teaching art you say? I may have gone to a school up by Lake Superior.

you’re a tall dude Scott….I played one of those in H/S band and it looked much bigger on me…..decent tone for a short scale if I recall right…
I have long gibbon like arms ! By 15 I was just about 6ft. The black one I had as a kid was a series II and yes it did sound pretty good! Better than the Mosrite I would own briefly in 75. The one incoming is a series III and is equipped with humbuckers, I always thought that they were the best sounding of the lot.

My daughter the psychologist was originally doing a double degree of PhD and JD. The JD was at Golden Gate in the City. Their goal was to have the same first pass percentage as the big Bay Area law schools. Instead of helping students reach that goal, they harassed any student they didn’t think would pass on the first try hoping that making their life miserable would get them to quit. My daughter even witnessed staff throwing away transfer papers for the top student in her class. Scum bags. Fortunately, my daughter figured out she didn’t need to be both a psychologist and lawyer to be an expert witness and didn’t return for her second year.
That's awful--but not uncommon. Not every single one, but a huge number of "academics" are little more than highly educated in one area and possess the maturity and wisdom of children. The humanities seem to be the worst offenders by far and the hard sciences less so. If more parents knew what they were getting by paying Big Education (that are generally sitting on massive trusts), they might rethink where they send their kids. (I've got 7 yrs of higher ed, and was planning on a Phd and teaching in a pre-or post graduate setting, a so I'm not a complete unwashed with no experience there.)

There are some ideas so absurd that only an intellectual could believe them; no ordinary man could be such a fool. (George Orwell)

Academia, like comedy, is all about saying ridiculous things with a straight face.

That is World Class stupid - that destroyed their chance at World Class stages.
I know. I don't know how the other band members restrained from committing a felony. Playing for money is like a job. Or should be, IMO. I know there's drinking and other things tolerated, but you only screw yourself by acting like a HS kid away from parents. Why someone didn't stop him is beyond me. They would have had a far better chance had they engaged in a fight on stage over that than letting it continue. It would be so tempting to never let that guy ever forget that. Something you all have worked hard to achieve and a few idiotic and needless comments and it was all gone.

Proving that skill, talent or even intellect is useless when there is a lack of wisdom. No matter how good that guy or anyone is, it's nearly impossible to overcome stupid.
Sometimes you look at people and you wonder how all that stupid fit in one head.

It wasn’t like that at UOP. Just very tough in my day. I had some very good professors.
